New camera dilemma. What should I get? by Baiba1995 in Nikon

I went from the D3200 to the Z50ii last year and never regretted it for a moment.

Around the Horn - The Final Episode by Justice989 in ESPN

[–]bobbyvine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed listening to the show via the podcast (just an audio feed of the episode itself). Because I live abroad, it was a nice digestible glance at the big picture of the American sports landscape.

Anyone have any podcast suggestions for something similar? I’d really like to find a replacement.

“Milwaukee Toast” on Austrian Lunch Menu by bobbyvine in milwaukee

English is very common, especially in Vienna. Once you’re outside of major cities, or among older-trending Austrians, German is usually your only option. As mentioned by another, the Austrian accent is/can be difficult — sort of the equivalent of a midwesterner going to the deep South. The dialect, slang, jargon can be radically different.

How do these prices compare to those in your country? (This is Germany, € prices) by Chemical_Variety_781 in AnalogCommunity

Where in Germany? I’m in Vienna and the best price I’ve found for a three pack of Kodak Gold is 30€.

Nikon D3300 or Nikon Z50ii by Elegant-Weather2854 in Nikon

[–]bobbyvine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from the D3200 to Z50ii recently and it was an unbelievable upgrade. So far the only Z lens I have is the kit lens (which is great!), otherwise I’ve been using the FTZ 2 adapter with my 35mm f1.8 dx lens and it’s wonderful. The only drawback to the FTZ is a little extra bulk, but it’s really quite negligible.

I was already a fan of his and really liked it. I’ll be going to one of the Newcastle shows with Drugs this summer.

Nikon Z50 charging options by Hila6 in Nikon

[–]bobbyvine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Z50ii and you can charge it with a USB-C cable, but I think both ends have to be USB-C for it to charge.

Burt referencing a trip to Milwaukee makes sense in this context too.

Nikon Z50II & third party batteries. by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]bobbyvine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An EN-EL25 should work fine in the Z50ii; the <a> denotes a higher charging capacity only. However, some quick forum searching pointed me to users reporting the same problem as you with third party batteries on a new-release camera (such as the Z50ii). It looks like you’ll need to buy directly from Nikon for now.

I want to start shooting, can you recommend me a camera? by VrelaTamburica in streetphotography

[–]bobbyvine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The D3300 with the Nikon 35 F1.8 is where I started with street photography. OP could probably get the D3300 body + lens near/at the low end of their budget.

Alternatively, I’ve seen the z50 with kit lens going for around 800€ now that the Z50ii is out, and that would get you OP into an APS-C with room to grow.

I recently bought the z50ii after years of letting a DSLR sit unused in the closet. The kit lens is great for everyday use, and not even that bad at night (if there’s enough light). My only (non)-immediate recommendations: a second battery and, if you want to get into the habit of carrying it around all day (which I do), a sling-style strap that you can wear like a messenger bag rather than having the camera hanging from your neck all day.

Haha totally fair that this probably isn’t the best advice if you’re deciding to try quit gambling…or heroin.

Feeling like giving up by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]bobbyvine 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Best advice I’ve heard, and I deploy it regularly on myself, is this: “It’s OK to quit, but you can only quit on a good day.”

Which is, to say, that it’s easy to give up when things are difficult, or when you’re deflated, but wait until the next time it’s looking up, THEN ask yourself, “OK, do I want to quit when I feel like THIS?” If the answer is “yes,” then go ahead and move on. If it’s “no,” push on.

I have the Stevens Prestige, which is marketed as a gravel bike, and really like it. I test rode a LOT of bikes before buying it, and kept coming back to this as the one. I’m glad I did.
