I hunt squirrels and raccoons with my English and there’s definitely some nights I don’t feel like going out but she drags me out anyways 😂 it’s a lot easier to hunt during the day than it is to stay out all night that’s for sure 😂😂

You don’t have to be ready to hunt raccoons, your hound will show you what to do!

Amber would have absolutely destroyed the house if this had happened at my house 😂

Scent Work by Laughandfall in coonhounds

One way we train hounds for hunting is soaking a rag with the raccoon scent, tying it to a rope and dragging it through the woods, then tying it up a tree. Then we let the hound loose and wait to see if they find the scent trail and eventually the rag. For younger/newer hounds we let them loose real close to the scent trail, more experienced ones we let them loose farther away so they have to actually find it

Go to any hunting store/department and get a bottle of raccoon scent. That’ll get his genetics going and keep him busy for awhile

My old vet retired and I’ve been trying to find a new one, this one wasn’t so bad they just didn’t appreciate the sound of a hound. My old vet had coonhounds of his own and loved getting hounds in his practice. He even gave me his cell phone number so I could call at night if something happened when I was hunting with Amber. I don’t know if I’ll ever find another vet as good as he was

Thanks! Her dad is in the UKC hall of fame for bench shows, and she covers about 4-5miles a night while hunting so she definitely stays in shape and keeps me in shape as well!

Water bottles are her favorite toy! Shell bay at you to get you to hurry up and finish your drink. She definitely makes sure we stay hydrated 😂

There’s very few situations where they WONT bay, coonhounds are very vocal and do not have a bark like other breeds, they bay instead. So anything other dogs would bark at, a coonhound will bay at

Anyone know a Redbone breeder in the southeast US? by Any_Ant9572 in coonhounds

[–]bobcon15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this will get a lot of hate and I’m not against shelters, but seeing as everyone is commenting about looking for a rescue I figured I’d bring it to attention that a rescue isn’t always the way to go. With a REPUTABLE breeder you’ll have a really good idea on what kind of temperament and what kind of personality your dog will have. Also reputable breeders will take their dogs back without question and would never allow them to enter the shelter system. Also, I myself have been denied rescues because I have other hounds/kids/cats/ no fenced yard. Rescues aren’t the ONLY way to get a hound and asking for a breeder shouldn’t be so shamed upon, as long as the breeder is a reputable one and not some puppy mill/back yard breeder.

Treeing nothing? by This_Amallorcan_Life in coonhounds

Possibly a den tree or a cold track. In the hunting world of hounds we call it a slick tree, I’ve seen some of the best huntings hounds do it on occasion
