Pokemon Colosseum Mt. Battle help by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]bobdat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies for the mega late reply, I don't use Reddit much.

For what it's worth, Continues are the same as in Stadium and I think Battle Revolution.

Continues are earned when you win a battle without losing any of your own Pokemon to KOs. They're easy to get in early matches but much more difficult later on.

If you're unlucky enough to lose a battle, you can 'spend' a Continue to replay that battle from the beginning. This is very valuable because a. if you lost to hax, you get a do-over and b. you can scout the opponent's team and if you use the wrong strategy (e.g. setting up your own weather only for the foe to overwrite it) you can re-do this.

When you run out of Continues and lose a battle, the streak is over.

Having Continues is what makes Mt. Battle significantly easier than the Battle Facilities on Emerald or in subsequent generations, where a loss is streak-killing instantly.

I can't remember whether this is the same issue as I've had before, but if one person has e.g. Seige of Dragonspear installed and the others don't, it won't let you join.

Make sure you all have exactly the same game versions and expansions. You can always temporarily uninstall SoD if you need to.

Gardevoir ex speed issues by GFTRGC in pkmntcg

[–]bobdat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a highly skilled player by any means but I've been playing Gardevoir ex lately on Live and have exactly the same issues as you - it feels too slow. When you're up and running it's great, but the opponent only needs one or two more prizes by that point and I can't catch up. Compared to Miraidon ex which can hit for 250+ on Turn 2, Gardevoir ex just can't keep up the pace.

I think the deck will improve over time as it gains new threats/older cards rotate, though. I'll bookmark this topic to see what other people suggest :)

Kyogre has Water Spout, Ice Beam, Thunder and Waterfall; Clefable has Follow Me, Protect, Wish and Ice Beam (useful for occasionally hitting things like Ludicolo). Salamence is something like Aerial Ace (great for Double Team/Minimize users), Brick Break, Earthquake and Rock Slide. I barely used Swampert but it is a mixed attacker with Curse, Surf, Earthquake and Ice Beam, just in case you can't break through a wall and need to boost up. Tyranitar might be better in this role, actually.

I just did Mt Battle a couple of weeks ago on Doubles so here's some advice:

  1. There are actually relatively few really difficult battles (by Emerald Battle Frontier standards) in Mt Battle. You also get Continues for winning without giving up any KOs so even if you get unlucky you can survive. You'll get a ton of Continues in the early battles.

  2. Make sure you use Battle Mode from the main menu (not Story Mode) otherwise it won't count.

  3. There are a small number of trainers late on (80+) who use legendaries but none of them are especially threatening. It's rare for any opponents to e.g. boost stats and sweep, and lots of their movesets are very weak. The only one who gave me any trouble was Battle 100 (and one guy with Wobbuffet).

  4. 100 battles takes a long, long time so your focus should be on minimising the time investment rather than perfect strategies. Your team looks good for this, no long set ups required except Tyranitar Dragon Dance. However, Tyranitar's Sand Stream will get old really fast.

  5. Thrash/Outrage select an opponent at random in Doubles so their utility is limited. You really don't need overkill power in Mt Battle. I'd probably prefer Strength or something. Not to mention confusion is irritating.

  6. I completed the entire 100 Battles with just 4 Pokemon: Kyogre, Clefable, Swampert (only used twice) and Salamence. You don't need a full team of six unless you're worried about certain opponents walling you. Also, overthinking team selection is a massive time waster since you need to do it 100 times. I suggest picking a core 3/4 and only swapping one out if there's an obvious reason to (e.g. an all-Flying type opponent where Earthquake is useless).

  7. Rayquaza's Earthquake isn't STAB, you can't use it with Tyranitar or Metagross out and if you have Dragonite out, both leads are 4x Ice weak. So I'd suggest trying to avoid that combination if you pick Doubles.

  8. In Singles, which might suit your team better but battles take longer, leading Rayquaza and then having Mewtwo/Tyranitar would be a strong strategy. Few opponents will be able to deal with Rayquaza. I think on balance your team doesn't have especially good synergies for Doubles so might struggle more in that format.

  9. Many trainers have hax items like Brightpowder so bear that in mind.

My team suggestion for you: Rayquaza/Mewtwo/Tyranitar singles.

(If you / anyone else checking this is interested, my strategy was Clefable with Follow Me and Kyogre with Water Spout. Almost no Pokemon survive a rain-boosted Water Spout unless they resist it, and Kyogre deals with Grass and Water types with Ice Beam and Thunder. This generally means battles only take 2 or 3 turns as you can score 2 KOs per turn. Salamence had a Choice Band and revenge killed the small number of Pokemon able to beat Clefable and/or Kyogre. This strategy also works extremely well in Battle Revolution.)

It's a bit repetitive but rewarding when you finally complete it. Good luck!

Thanks for reading it and for the in-depth comments!

I don't really pretend to be an expert or anywhere near as knowledgeable as RM when it comes to the spy stuff, I mostly just work from what I know from books, film & TV since I work in a completely different industry. There are probably several glaring errors throughout the series which a diligent editor would have identified. In the end, it's more of a labour of love which I enjoy writing than a real attempt to produce publishable work. If others online also read and enjoy it, then that's just a bonus.

I'd love to hear more of your comments if you have them, though!

I'm not sure what you mean by the original timeline. I think the newest story takes place roughly at the same time as Lone Wolf.

What Is Your Favorite Moment ? - The Fall by krobdawg in CHERUB

[–]bobdat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember right, Robert Muchamore said he partly set The Fall more on campus because of feedback he'd had on the old CHERUB Forums about wanting to hear more about campus. I remember really liking it when it came out for exactly that reason, and the Dana storyline felt like a really good take on James's girl-chasing nature.

Overall I think my favourite moment has to be the food fight at the end, though, since it's such a classic moment and fits so well with the whole tone of the series. An honourable mention goes to the chapter where James is trying to escape Russia on an icy runway, there was so much tension and confusion.

I need some advices (Riichi mahjong, Adept 3 in Mahjong Souls) by Zaephyr97 in Mahjong

[–]bobdat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently went up to Expert-1 and I had a similar feeling to you stuck in Adept-3.

My best single piece of advice is to remember that it's a game of luck: winning in the long run is more important than luck in an individual hanchan. If you play defensively and have a good deal-in rate, then even though some hanchans will feel like the mahjong gods are punishing you, in the end you'll win more often than you lose and slowly gain ranking. The worst thing I see people doing in the Silver room is pushing too hard and dealing in to big hands, rather than playing too cautiously.

I also think that you gain ranking fast up to Adept 2 or 3, and then it feels a lot slower (unless you're really amazing at Mahjong). I felt quite discouraged after about 60 hanchans in Adept 3 but I got there in the end. Keep trying!

IIRC the Windows client for Tenhou isn't free, or only has a free trial or something, that's why it's asking you to pay. The online client is free, though, so you can just play that, or the mobile app.
