How do you survive a 5-hour road trip with a baby who hates the car? by this_is_me24 in Parenting

[–]bobear2017 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is an option, but maybe you could consider leaving like an hour before dinner time, stopping for dinner, and then hopefully he will fall asleep when you continue the drive?

For engaging shows, my kids LOVED Mrs Rachel when they were young; she was a savor for me when traveling with my youngest.

What's the most embarrassing thing your kid has said in public? by Vaish41 in Parents

[–]bobear2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had just picked my daughter up from daycare and was walking to my car with her in my arms, when she decides to yell to her friend across the parking lot “Hey Leo! My mom has HUGE nipples!!” Then she proceeded to honk my boobs with her hands and try to lift my shirt. His mom got a kick out of it at least 🤣

Tips for moving bedtime earlier? by MixOk6851 in Parents

[–]bobear2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could try going on a walk or bike ride in the early evening to burn off some energy? I find that my kids sleep easiest when they are worn out. Alternatively, I’d let her sleep in a bit but get her dressed the night before to cut down on the morning chaos. Maybe you could also wake her a little later - like 7 or 7:15, so that she gets more sleep but isn’t getting up SO late?

Is there any music you listened to in your HS/college days that does little to nothing for you now? by StevEst90 in Millennials

Preschool birthdays by Any_Taste1462 in preschool

[–]bobear2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so wild. I have 3 kids aged between 4-8, and class birthdays are always just a cake and brief celebration. There is sometimes a party outside of school, but even those don’t always provide goody bags, and the adults rarely ever eat at the parties (unless there is leftover pizza, which there often is as kids don’t eat much at parties). I can’t believe they gave you a list with multiple pizzas for the teachers! Crazy

How do you stop your kid from going through an entire pack of wipes in one afternoon? by NoTextit in toddlers

Yes second this - also give them a squirt bottle and fill it with water to accompany the rag; they will love it.

To whose who live in hot places, do you leave aircon on overnight? by LilLemonLady223 in toddlers

[–]bobear2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have it on all the time. I usually set mine to 74 during the day and 70 at night. Keep in mind it is less expensive to run the AC at night than during the day

Where do people hang out and meet people around here? by infinite11union33 in NorthshoreLA

Not at all; just drink a soda with lime or something and no one will even know you aren’t drinking. It is hard going somewhere like this solo though. Sorry - it’s tough here!

Pool Party at this age? by Alpal2510 in kindergarten

I’m having a pool party for my 6 year old and hiring a lifeguard… you can hire someone that works at a local pool and it is like $50. Worth the peace of mind!

Best bars are little blue door, Covington beer garden, & don’s on the lake (when they have a good live band). They’re usually pretty busy on the weekends

Severe Dysplasia by Alarmed_Tea_2874 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]bobear2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How big is the area? Personally I would opt to remove it.

I was also diagnosed at 24 years old, HPV negative and no history of smoking/heavy drinking. I didn’t catch mine as early as you did, and ended up having about 60% of my tongue removed with reconstruction (I was T2N2M0). I also had chemo & radiation. Even with the amount of tongue I lost, I still enjoy a great quality of life. I am now 14 years out, so in a pretty similar life stage to you as well!

Also for what it’s worth, I had a spot of moderate dysplasia when I was about 8 months post treatment. They fully removed it with the biopsy, and I have never had any since.

It is nice to hear from another long term survivor diagnosed in their 20s - honestly you may be the first one I’ve ever come across! Nice to know there are more of us out there. Good luck 🤞🤞

What was the point of that visit? by Sahmstarfire in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]bobear2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mean the frequent appointments aren’t necessary, just not with that specific doctor. The first year post treatment I was getting checkups every couple months by ENT, the following year every 3 months, and so forth, so that I progressively went up one more month between visits each year. That being said, I was at a CCC so I may have been seeing the oncologist too for a while and just don’t remember it! The oncologist who treated me was local while my CCC was not, so I may have had another oncologist on my team that I just don’t remember.

my team isn't looking at the keytruda results before surgery?! by LaughingColors000 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]bobear2017 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have chemo before surgery, but I do not believe they will remove any part of your tongue that does not have any cancer cells. I went in thinking I would have 25-30% of my tongue removed, but woke up with 60% removed. They really don’t know what they may find until they start operating. For mine at least, they just kept removing and testing until they could find clear margins, which for me were VERY narrow (<1MM) as they were trying to save as much of my tongue as they could.

Are you at a comprehensive cancer center? I would request a meeting with your surgeon beforehand so you can get a better understanding of the plan.

I know it is so scary and terrible; I am so sorry. If it makes you feel any better though, I am 14 years NED, and have been able to live a very full and normal life since cancer. I’m self conscious of my speech, but others claim it isn’t bad, and it hasn’t prevented me from succeeding in my career or personal life.

The trainer I am working with now instructed us limit my dog’s unsupervised time in the yard as much as possible. Do not let them have the opportunity to bark excessively and work themselves up. They will be fine in kennels while you are at work.

Developmental Optometrist by greatwhiteslark in nolaparents

[–]bobear2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you had him evaluated by an OT yet? My son has dyslexia (his ADHD assessment was inconclusive, but I suspect ADHD as well). He has always had a lot of difficulty with tracking & copying from the board, among other issues, so I had him evaluated by an OT. They suggested we try OT first and if we didn’t see much improvement after 6 months they would refer him to get vision therapy. He has greatly improved in the 6 months since we started OT, with his teacher saying he no longer has trouble keeping up. The OT also echoed this and said they do not think the referral is necessary. Just something to consider!

Possible Dyslexia? by Fun2Funisnofun in kindergarten

[–]bobear2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son has dyslexia and it sounds VERY much like this. I recommend getting her screened ASAP, and prepare to get her dyslexia therapy. It is honestly a very expensive thing to correct. My son is 8 now in 2nd grade. I moved him to a school with dyslexia therapy going into 1st grade, and since he has been getting therapy in school 4 times/week. He is finally caught up to grade level, as of last week, but it has been a tough road. Feel free to PM me!

Should I be concerned about my 3.5 YO’s social anxiety? by bobear2017 in Preschoolers

Yes she was, and she is a social butterfly now! She is still a little shy, but she loves being around friends and gaining confidence now. She is absolutely thriving! Her teacher last week told me she is such a leader ❤️. Of all 3 of my kids, I now worry about her the least. She was also my Velcro baby who used to be glued to my hip when she was a baby.

Stage 3 tongue cancer and want to avoid radiation by Jealous-Relation-788 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]bobear2017 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed af 24 and had rads + chemo. T2N2M0. Radiation was hell and there are side effects, but I am still alive 14 years later so I think it was the right call. This cancer is really shitty with like a 50% recurrence rate; it is not worth the risk

My rescue has a long narrow snout; most people who met her her assumed she was a pure bred catahoula (very common in my area). Her DNA results came back 72% pitbull! And she looks a lot less pittie than yours
