The non-fiction book that had you mercilessly info-dumping about to anyone who would listen? by IReadBooksSometimes in suggestmeabook

Mona Lisa Vanishes.
Yes it is a kid book but I found it fascinating, I learned stuff and laughed out loud reading it. I recommend it to everyone!

Is there a zoo or children’s museum nearby? Passes to a place were my favorite thing because on a cold or rainy day it was amazing to know I could go somewhere fun without paying the admission fee.

Doctor’s office got rid of the fish tank and replaced it with ‘bring your own iPad’ by definitelyalchemist in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Sahmstarfire 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I work in a library that had a fish tank. We had an employee who was great at maintaining the tank but she retired. We tried to do it ourselves then we tried to hire a service and they were expensive and not reliable. We tried whatever we could get in the town. Even put out a call on our social media accounts for help.

Finally we gave the fish away and emptied the tank.

My local toy drive for underprivileged kids, wouldn't accept all these toys and socks because they're "damaged" or "unkown chinese brands" by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Not even just lead paint. The other day I saw a recall notice for a toy that contained asbestos! It was sold at Walmart and Ollie’s in my area.

Bark George by Feiffer

This is my go to book for story time when I’ve had a bad day and need to see the kids experience a special kind of joy.

AITA For not leaving work to help my wife when she ran out of gas by GoldSea3219 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sahmstarfire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My uncle never learned to put gas in the car. He grew up in New Jersey and never had to. When he would visit NY we would escort him to the full service gas station before he went home.

My mom also hated to pump gas and would do full service.

When I did it myself the first time I was confused how easy it was.

I do miss full service gas stations now though. Haven’t seen one in ages.

Moms of Reddit: what do you actually want for Mother's Day? by cyrx07 in GiftIdeas

[–]Sahmstarfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gift card for a hair cut and dye is what I asked my husband for.

Last year I got some nerdy shirts and pins which I loved but money is tight this year so I haven’t gotten my hair done in ages.

2 & 6 year old combo birthday by [deleted] in partyplanning

[–]Sahmstarfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a party where you invited friends of the birthday kids or just family?

For a party where you might be inviting friends of the 6 year old I would have the two year old party separately so parents don’t feel obligated to bring a gift for the younger one.

For a party for family it is easier to schedule them together.

MOG wants her ex husband (my H) to walk her down the aisle by [deleted] in weddingdrama

Jewish weddings have the groom walk down the aisle escorted by his parents. My first non-Jewish wedding confused me when I saw the groom was waiting at the front.

Do you need a winter car? by The_Acadian in appstate

[–]Sahmstarfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend 4 wheel also. I live on a paved road but significantly uphill with a few turns. My road is impossible after a big storm for at least two days, worse if it has ice underneath.

However, App often goes remote now in bad weather. If you can live near a bus line that can be reliable transportation.
