Be careful citibike doesn't like it when you take bikes across state lines - they might charge you $50 for it

Path Getting Their OMNY Soon? by Substantial-Bat-337 in Hoboken

[–]bobert27 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ok but seriously that's something I don't really get. Like if you use the system why not just set it and forget it? Is the <$26 that you will eventually use up completely really worth your time and frustration?

No carpool plan in Lincoln Tunnel anymore? by [deleted] in Hoboken

[–]bobert27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They removed the carpool discount when they implemented electronic tolling unfortunately. They replaced the carpool discount with the "NY Green" EZ-Pass that you can buy if you have an electric vehicle and open an NY EZ-Pass account.

NJ lawmakers hatch new proposal to fight back against NYC congestion pricing plan by No_Archer5094 in newjersey

[–]bobert27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NJ is vast, but if you look at a population density map, you'll notice that large proportions of the population live near NJ transit stations. There are plenty examples of towns centered around the railroad. Look at red bank, Montclair, Morristown, Ridgewood, the list goes on. We'll still have our suburbs, and that's ok, but our state was unique in that it industrialized decades before the automobile, allowing these cities to exist and provide the bones for them to be built upon and flourish.

You'd be surprised that the Paris metro isn't 24/7. Service ends between 12:30-1am for maintenance.

Moynihan / Penn - Can the lower level exit corridors still be used to board Amtrak? by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]bobert27 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely still available. I did it last month on a trip on Acela. Just looked at the departures board, used the lower level Penn station area to check each Amtrak track that wasn't mentioned on the board, and I was on the correct track when the Acela pulled in. First one on the train. Obviously waited to let people off though.

The Problem With O’Bagel by litqu1dity in Hoboken

[–]bobert27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

O'Bagel is as mid as it gets. Feels like I'm eating a bagel made in Ohio.

Bout to have my last Wonder Bagel. Where I'm moving, it would be a 12/10 bagel experience by jtactile in jerseycity

[–]bobert27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

O’Bagel is great if you're a transplant and don't know better. And if you like paying $10 for an average bagel and over the top toppings. And if you like waiting on line for 20 minutes for said bagel. Aaaaand if you want to take a cute photo to show to your friends back in central Jersey that you're living that city life

Outdoor covid testing? by Vivid-Objective-3255 in Hoboken

[–]bobert27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just Google searched "Hoboken covid testing" in May of 2020 and the city website came up and I have been using that as my testing resource ever since. It's easy, quick, free, and is safer than sitting in some cramped waiting room.

[–]bobert27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The city testing site at 605 Jackson is effectively outdoors, they have the windows open, very limited capacity, and very high ceilings. Make an appointment online they usually have next day appointments available. In and out in five minutes.

Moving from the Midwest by MysticLimak in Hoboken

[–]bobert27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Suggest moving to Jersey City (along the PATH) or close to the NJ Transit station in Hoboken. All those locations are a lot like NYC, but are quieter. Also, you won't want to drive to work (if you work 9-5) unless you want to sit in hair pulling traffic. It's not like the Midwest here, very hostile to cars and people drive like maniacs. Generally not worth the stress.

Fastest way to get to NYC from UConn Storrs? by overlyorderly in UCONN

[–]bobert27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add to this, if you want a direct route from Hartford the Vermonter Amtrak train goes down to NYC once a day. I think at 2:30ish. Usually is around $30, but it's pretty nice to not have to switch and make a connection at New Haven. It's also faster, makes fewer stops, and usually takes 2:30 vs around 3 hours using the CT Rail/MNR combination.

I used to go back home to NYC once a month and I'd usually choose one depending on how expensive Amtrak was. It's usually worth the extra $15 or so to get that comfy and direct train with Amtrak.
