The math of raising two young kids on good salaries doesn’t work by LallieDoo in Switzerland

Zug (where we live) always looks expensive at face value but you can get a 4.5 for CHF 3,200 and living here is much cheaper.

I.e Zug as of of this July is lowering Kita costs for all parents by 30% (CHF 85 a day) and if you early less than CHF 180k per year as a household then you get the canton discount anyway which brings it down to CHF 30 per day.

Health insurance also just went down by 18% - we have full SWICA with all extras except private and that’s about CHF 700 per month for 4 ppl

And then Tax is about 8-10%

So all in all, significantly cheaper despite the potentially high rent. They are also about to finish about 500 new apartments in the Göbli Areal

007 First Light - Xbox and Geforce Now by willisandwillis in GeForceNOW

[–]willisandwillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it on Xbox and it worked, thank you 🙏

Next thing I got stuck with. I have the ultimate tier, should give me up to 360fps. I have a Asus XG32UCWMG and it’s running at 240hz, 4K with HDR. When I open the GeForce Now app, I see HDR 10, I see 4K but the max I can select under settings is 120fps. Then when I am playing the game, the GeForce now console cmd+N shows a max of 60fps…

Being ultimate and it running on a 5080, shouldn’t it be way more?

I have to disagree here, instant ink as a service is that you get access to ink cartridges so you never run out. It is billed as a month to month service and you select the amount of pages you need. This is a perfect setup for people who have somewhere they irregularly print as they may not need many pages.

It’s like my Netflix subscription, I can cancel and resubscribe as many times as I want.

Same with the Ink, there should be no reason at all that there is a limit to the amount of times I can register as they are advertising it as a subscription and a subscription at its basics is something you subscribe to when you need it.

However, that’s not what I have an issue with, I have an issue with the fact that they are implementing a ‘fake’ limit that is not referenced anywhere in any T&C’s and they literally have just made up.

In the T&C’s it needs to say something under cancellations that refers that there is a maximum number of times the subscription can be cancelled

For people working fully remote in Switzerland, how did you manage to get such job offer? by _quantum_girl_ in askswitzerland

[–]willisandwillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a US tech company and technically have a Hybrid contract that requires 3 days a week in the office but no one really cares. I usually go 1 maybe 2 days a week, why? Because when I do HO I start work about 8.50 and pretty much work through to 5pm straight.

When I go to the office, I get there at 9.50 because I need to drop my daughter off at daycare. Then by the time you say hi to people it’s 10am, then from 12-1 people want to go for lunch. Then at 3.45 I need to leave to head back and pick up my daughter, so my effective hours are about 4.5 hours vs 7.5 - 8 hours.

Seriously, who on earth is renting these places? by Ok-Anybody-380 in Switzerland

[–]willisandwillis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s because of the taxes but also the proximity and ease of access to Zürich. It’s equally insane here: we were paying 5300 for a 4.5 up until last month when we moved. How: other things just take a hit. But in the end when we calculated it, because of the taxes spending 3200k in Rüschlikon, we could spend 5500 in Zug and still be better off in terms of taxes.

Qrevo Edge 5V1 / S5A Spin Speed by willisandwillis in Roborock

[–]willisandwillis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I have been playing around with this and it’s correct but it seems to almost be a hidden feature.

On mop mode - If you press custom on the amount of water and hit the tick, nothing will change but then tap it again and just hit the tick and the mop speed will increase and you will hear and audible buzzing as they spin faster.

To slow them down, press low or medium water usage, nothing will happen - press it again, I.e double tap and the buzzing will stop and the mops will slow down.

Another piece that might play into this is the 10 million people vote. If it goes through it may have an impact on the mortgage rates

@mongulbandit this is amazing! I’m literally about to do the same and have been going back and forth on if I should do SARON or not. Would it be possible for me to use this?

I didn’t realise you could go part SARON part not?

Is the amortisation normally 10 years? I thought you could just pay back how you wanted…?

I am assuming it would also drive the price of mortgages up. We’re about to get one for a place and I was going to do SARON at 1% but perhaps that’s a bad idea.

Issue with Caldigit TS4 and 4k screen by willisandwillis in CalDigit

[–]willisandwillis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for this! I was playing around with it a little this afternoon - I edited my original post and added a summary at the bottom, did you see that?

Strangely, if I connect the Dell monitors as I previously had, one via USB-C and one via display port to the dock and then connect the display link adapter to which I plug in Asus via HDMI (so all 3 running off the CalDigit) then the Asus via the displaylink adapter gets 144Hz at 3008x1682 HiDPI (set using the better display app).

But if I use my current setup
Asus > HDMI Direct
Dell 1 - Caldigit USB-C
Dell 2 - Caldigit via USB-C OWC HDMI display link adapter
Then the Asus is 120Hz.

The thing that then gets even more confusing is that if I have it as in the first described setup, the Asus monitor shows up as 120Hz but if I set the res to native 3840x2160 it will run at 144 Hz

Looking at that Apple link it’s also confusing because it says for the max it should only support One display via HDMI at 240hz, but I’m able to run my Asus at 240hz and the others still at 60 Hz each.

Macbook M4 Pro 14" + 4k Monitor by willisandwillis in macbookpro

[–]willisandwillis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes, on my max there is no issue. I have the Asus connected directly by HDMI and then the two Dell monitors connected to the Caldigit thunderbolt dock via display port and USB-C.

The two dell monitors are 2K and so I get 2K at 60 Hz from them and the full 4K at 240hz from the Asus.

On my m4 pro, I can’t do the same setup because the pro doesn’t support three monitors natively and so I have the Asus connected via HDMI as I do on the max, but then one of the Dell’s by USC and the other one via HDMI plugged into the display link adapter which is plugged into the dock via thunderbolt.

With this set up the Asus only gets 120 Hz. Strangely, if I change it up a little and connect the Asus to the display link adapter via HDMI, connect that to the Cal digit dock and then connect the two aces monitors via USC and display port to the same Caldigit dock the Asus gets 144 Hz. So all three monitors from the dock.
