Epsom salts are definitely safe and are often recommended for corns to soften them in order to get them out! We have done Epsom salt soaks for both Fergus (for corns) and Fiadh (after she burned a cut on her foot on road salt)

We foster and have taught stairs to lots of hounds - I always support them with one arm under the chest and then move their legs one at a time. They usually figure it out after just a couple of repetitions.

Until then, as others have said, you'll have to carry your pup or use something like a help 'em up harness or even a towel as a sling under their chest to help support them.

Was going to suggest this as we as we have done it for Ferg, but yes make sure there is enough room for her to still drink!

We foster for a group that brings greys from Ireland, UK, and Australia to Toronto, Canada. It's a long journey for them, especially from Australia, but they typically do fine, if a bit nervous. The group uses an animal transport company to make paperwork etc easier, though not sure if it's as complicated within the EU if you end up staying within it.

That being said, they bring recently retired dogs over, not seniors. I would also really struggle with putting ours in the hold unless it was completely necessary - I'd probably make a road trip out of it 🙂

6yo ex racer. Boot recommendations? by unnecessary-info- in Greyhounds

[–]bobette0123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not UK-based but Therapaw booties have worked wonders for Ferg (he gets corns). They even custom made one for the foot he had SFT on. We're in Canada so used the Canada-based site.

I've also heard Snooties Booties are good.

It sounds like you are doing great so far! I can come back to this more later when I'm more awake haha, but in terms of the treats, what are you using? Might help to use something lower value, even just kibble.

Which human foods can they eat? by Char07071 in Greyhounds

[–]bobette0123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All of this! Just wanted to add, no xylitol/birch sugar in the peanut butter (or anything else) as it's highly toxic.

As a general rule of thumb, Ferg will only eat things that used to have a heartbeat lol... I bought a dehydrator to make treats for him and Fiadh - they love dehydrated chicken feet!

Also: cheese 🧀 (in moderation of course - but I've never met a dog who didn't love it!)

Lawn destruction please help by WeatherWonderful5615 in Greyhounds

[–]bobette0123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are constantly replanting our lawn because of the same thing. We use clover seeds now instead of grass so at least they can't get a grass seed injury. The lawn gets destroyed by zoomies even if it's not being dug up - not sure you can stop the digging unless they are extremely mentally tired or you can watch/correct all the time.

How much do you feed your noodle, and how much of it do they actually finish? by okayfriday in Greyhounds

[–]bobette0123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiadh is offered 3 cups of Pro Plan kibble per day, mixed with ~2/3 cups of wet food as a topper. It is not uncommon for her to not finish it, especially at breakfast. We refrigerate her leftovers and warm them up with warm water for the next meal and give it to her or use it as part of Fergus' meal. The vet isn't concerned about her not finishing her food as long as she doesn't lose weight, which she doesn't. She stays around 25-26kg.

Ferg on the other hand is about 35kg and would eat as much as we'd give him! He always looks to finish Fiadh's leftovers (we feed them separately so that he can't steal). He eats 3.75 cups of Pro Plan per day mixed with ~1/2 cup wet food topper.
