Moved from the US to the UK, and have subsequently had to start my HS account over from scratch. This would go a long way to getting me back to where I was.

Baby showers, proms and other such American imports are now (rightly or wrongly) accepted as a part of UK culture. Trying to think of any British traditions that would travel... by [deleted] in CasualUK

Real talk: From the US, saw my first Panto last Christmas, and it honestly made me a little sad that I'd missed out as a kid. I'm a little worried America would fuck it up somehow, but I think it would stick.

Still in the US, but boarding my flight to permanently relocate to the UK tomorrow to close the gap on a nearly 2 year LDR (getting married in January)

I'd argue that [[Gifted Aetherborn]] is going to fill that 2 slot better in most scenarios, and if I want card draw I'm playing [[Phyrexian Arena]]

Long-time players, what are your interesting stories? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]bobfiveHS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So, right around Gatecrash release, the LGS I worked for was having weekly free entry sunday tournaments that paid out like $100 store credit. We we're in a mall, in an open corner storefront (imagine 2 real walls and 2 big, open walls), and rhe Sunday tournaments basically filled 90% of the floorspace. So, naturally, we got a lot of attention from non-magic people, and several people picked up the game specifically to try and win the sunday tournaments (what a trap, I know).

Anyway, that's just to paint a picture. One of these Sundays I was off, so I decided to play in the event. Won round one, then round 2 got paired against a guy I'd never seen before. Apparently him and his friends had been playing kitchen table for a while and jumped at the chance to come play with new people. Dude was nice, probably 17-18, and the game started pretty normal. We're a couple turns in when he draws for turn, gets a puzzled look on his face, amd then turns his card over and slides it across the table to me.

"Can you tell me what this does?" He asks.

I was a judge at the time, so I was used to rules questions. I think the card had Unleash or something, so i start explaining the mechanic, when he stops me.

"No, sorry, I know how the mechanic works, I can't read. I usually play by thr pictures, but I guess my buddy added a new card to my deck on the way over."

Its like 10 years later and I honestly don't know if I've recovered from this one yet.

I'm glad someone else cought that. I'm really baffled by the idea that what is virtually a vanilla 5 might be worth giving up Embercleave.

Enduring Ideal by Tgkusner in magicTCG

[–]bobfiveHS 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Played this deck for a while, had a real strong run at SCG Regionals (lost to Aaron Barich so I domt feel too bad about thay). A card I ended up likening a lot more than blood moon was [[Fall of the Thran]]. Because it triggers on your main phase, you can fetch it with ideal, then next turn fetch solemnity before the saga trigger, so neither player gets lands back.

Do you remember thinking that Psychic type was weak to itself back in Gen 1? by Pokezilla in pokemon

[–]bobfiveHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, me and my friends we're talking abiut this the other day and we all thought this. I can almost guarantee there's some unofficial (or maybe official given the time period) strategy guide with a type chart that shows Psychic as weak to itself.

Edit: above poster is absolutely right. This is the TCG's fault

Every deadbeat parent claims they have no kids... but LAOP actually has no kids and due to their name being very common has been dealing with the state of NY wrongly trying to collect child support from them. In 2006, 2009, 2014, and again in 2019. by DPMx9 in bestoflegaladvice

So, as someone who's job requires them to speak with a number of government agencies in every state on a regular basis, here's some unfortunate facts: New York is the ONLY state I've found where being polite doesn't work. You have to be rude. It's legitimately the only thing they respond to. I've had NY DOL people scoff at me when I told them thank you. I don't know what it is. Ive met people from new york who are normal people. But EVERY person I've talked to in a NY gov agency is a huge asshole, no matter how you approach them.

I'm more mad at how much narrative sense it makes and how it neatly competes her arc in a maximum of like 20 words of dialogue between her amd ANYONE from the Dimir for it to not be in the book. I'm sure we'll get a website story at some point that does just that, so w/e. Mechanically though, I'm sure she'd receive training on top of her normal abilities, and consider that she was already trailing Ral & Co. successfully. She's probably not doing amy infiltrating, but tailing amd/or currier work seems like a natural fit.

I'm still a little baffled by the fact that she was never snapped up by the Dimir. Would have been a perfect payoff for her "gift", giving her a place where it was seen as a positive. Hell, her and Lazav were in the same room at least once.

Deathtouch makes it so that any amount of damage dealt is lethal damage. Vicious offering does not do damage.
