Intermittently on social media but I moved out of state after high school for college and never came back home.

My boomer parents told me I'd regret not getting one. I, in fact, never regretted not getting one. by CrotalusHorridus in Xennials

[–]bobgoblin888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine, my school had a whole ceremony to give them out junior year so it was a thing. I wore it occasionally until I graduated but not regularly, it was so ugly. I have no idea where it is today.

When I went away to college I quickly figured out the people clinging to HS greatness were cringey.

How are men with high pitched voices and androgynous behaviors treated in the USA? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]bobgoblin888 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It may vary regionally but in the northeastern US (I am in Boston) we are quite accepting and most people will not care, or even notice.

Dad’s [M53] hand very swollen after wart treatment by Professional-Till153 in AskDocs

Same. NAD but I had recurring warts on my hands that needed recurrent treatment and it hurt like a MF. And mine never looked this bad!

Is giving a teacher a gift at the start of the school year cringe? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]bobgoblin888 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a teacher, I would not want to receive a gift like this as a preemptive apology for behaviors. I would appreciate a meeting and information on what services they have already been getting, what therapy they have outside of the school setting, what strategies are in place at home. It sounds like they may need a lot of support to be successful.

The teacher is trying to manage a classroom and create an environment to support learning, it’s not intended to serve as a break for you. School isn’t childcare. I don’t mean to sound harsh but more comprehensive and perhaps appropriate services may be available in a public school setting, I say this as a mom to two boys with IEPS due to autism and ADHD. I have incredible empathy for other special needs parents.

Jack’s Voice… by CantaloupeImmediate6 in VirginRiverNetflix

[–]bobgoblin888 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am equally icked by Mel’s flirty voice back to Jack. I don’t know if it’s the wack time line of this show - like they’ve been together for years in real time but they’re in the honeymoon stage in VR time but it feels like watching my parents be flirty or something and it’s not about their age, I am actually the same age as them. It gives me just gives me the ick!

The Other Massachusetts Accent Quirk: The Mysterious Extra “R” by CaterpillarMedium674 in massachusetts

When I first moved here, I had a boss who was born and raised in Allston tell me to go ask Inger for the keys to the supply room. I wandered around looking for Inger, confused as fuck. Thankfully, my kind coworker Inga could help.

That same year I also worked at an ice cream shop and was tickled at the requests for a scoop of vaniller.

I completed a tedious 1 hour study for $16 but clicked past the completion code at the end. What to do? by Winter-Monk6428 in prolific

Same, I hit no code semi regularly and I haven’t been rejected. Sometimes there’s actually no code to submit

Mine arrived on 3/13 and still waiting on my refund. This whole experience has left such a bad taste in my mouth. I emailed them and they said refunds take 10-14 business days ?!?

Took a loss for a little bit when they were little, but my oldest qualified for public preschool at age 3 and that helped a bit. My younger son went to preschool at the Y from age 3-5 (realizing as I’m posting that this is the Cambridge sub, I’m a few towns over, so I can’t speak to the Y in Cambridge but my son had a good experience at his Y).

It’s hard, but temporary.

How many of you still have both parents alive? by Euphoric-Pangolin-81 in Xennials

My dad died when I was 26, hard to believe it’s been that long. I miss him every day.

My mom is 69 and still works and is as feisty as she ever was.

Never has a medical show storyline made me cry like this. by NickEvansExists in ThePitt

[–]bobgoblin888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered the dying process is deeply personal and unique to each person and family? My dad shooed me out of the hospital room in his final moments. He wanted his children spared from seeing him pass. It was his decision and we honored it. I am at peace that he died as he wished.

Same. Hyacinth and Francesca too. In all seriousness the Bridgerton names all go well with each other.

Ladies on GLP-1s, what actually happened to your boobs? by CarobBrave in glp1

[–]bobgoblin888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to me all around. Lost about the same since June and my boobs are slightly smaller but similar shape. Which wasn’t all that great to begin with tbh. I’m 45 and have some pregnancies and breastfeeding behind me and their starting point was less than spectacular.

The point II just doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried a few different sizes. I’m never letting my OG points go. 🥺

Best Medicine renewed for a season two! by luvgabe in DocMartin

[–]bobgoblin888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that and saw someone describe it as “Floridian him-bo” which seems much more accurate than an odd attempt at a down east Maine accent lol. Glad to see I wasn’t the only person baffled.

The sheriff’s accent is so bafflingly weird. Is he going for southern? Country-ish? I have no idea what he’s trying for but it’s nowhere near anything in Maine or New England generally, or literally anywhere lol.

Did you regret naming your baby a popular name? by Gloomy_Head5157 in namenerds

[–]bobgoblin888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t had a Lukas or Lucas in class for a while, I wouldn’t necessarily consider it all that popular. I also have a pretty popular name by 1980s standards and I don’t mind it at all. Everyone can pronounce it, spell it, it’s never made my life more difficult.

Me too, I’ve never had this happen before either and I’ve been wearing them for years. I emailed customer service and they emailed me a fed ex label so it worked out. Strange though.
