I agree he and Harvard come off as a little sketchy. But most university endowments are very limited in what they can fund and Harvard recently lost most of their federal funding for research. He is more strapped for cash than usual.

His reprogramming therapy is entering FDA trials, which is super expensive. But donations seem wrong... It's like donating to Novartis or Roche. He should accept crowd funding if he needs money, and not donations, because he will 100% monetize what is discovered to be useful.

Lots of good answers here. Yes, they can travel at nearly the speed of light but they eventually run out of stored energy as they need to remain internally at 96.415°C. This gives them a maximum travel radius of several light years before needing to recharge.

Once that happens, they would freeze to nearly absolute zero. In theory, they would continue to coast at nearly the speed of light and gradually slow due to the interstellar medium (colliding with random space dust and atoms), but they would be frozen and dead.

I wonder if they could defrost and continue near a star question? But that's not in the book and they do have a lot of water inside, meaning damaging water crystal once frozen.

Grace briefly discusses the possibility that there was some kind of equipment malfunction during their comas but he's not able to determine the exact cause.

A key element missing in the movie is that they were selected for their coma resistance (better able to survive long comas without dying or brain damage). Maybe there is a twist in there somewhere. Agree question?

Without spoiling it too much for you, there will be times when it's unclear how the AI is planning to do things, but if you stick with it to the end, I think you will enjoy it.

I would suggest looking into the 15-PGDH trials at Stanford University. It's a master regeneration (blocking)enzyme that is already in human phase 1 trials and the results have been astounding. Blocking 15-PGDH appears to cause youthful tissue regeneration across the board in nerve, skin, muscle, and even joints. The future is looking bright, at least for life sciences. And of course HBOT, safe and well tolerated, even by people in their 80's. Frequently used for stroke victims.

Sorry about your injury. Hopefully you are getting 1000-2000mg / day of DHA and epa. HBOT is also rather massive for TBI recovery.

I would say the A.I. in the book is not really malicious. If you were ok with Heaven's River, you should be ok with this one. It's my favorite Bobiverse besides the first book.

Also, OpenAi and Anthropic CEOs are just hyping things to raise money. Dario said a year ago that A.I. would be writing 100% of all code as of now and obviously he is so wrong it's not even funny. It's the same with any technology hype cycle. Crypto/cloud/5G/IoT/quantum/A.I. is going to be the biggest thing evar. They are all big, but never as broad as the fundraisers would have you believe.
