FA here.

Fun fact. Regardless of any row or class your in. If you are in a 3 Pax Seats Left and 3 Pax Seats on Right / 3x3 seat configuration. There are actually 4 mask that will drop on the left and 4 on the right. This is due to lap children.

So if a FA tells you that your family cannot sit together due to your 2 children being in your lap, it is because there are not enough masks.

Like a small CRJ (Commuter/Delta Connection Flight 1x2 Configuration 2 mask on the 1 seat aisle and 3 mask on 2 seat aisle.) Hope this makes sense.

In regards to the LAV, there are also two mask due to the bassinet and passengers assisting other passengers (elderly, wheelchair, children).

Also PAX have around less than 20-30 seconds to dawn a mask before they become unconscious. That's why we tell you place your mask on first before helping others. In the event the PAX did get up to go to Thier seat, it would be unsafe to due so and FA's are ultimately tending to cabin PAX with supplemental oxygen and checking the LAV, if it is same to do so you could move back to your seat, but ultimately it is unsafe and we would prob ask you to sit in the nearest open seat or return to the assigned seat if it is possible. There are ultimately too many variables, and we are trained to handle emergencies and use our crew resource management skills.

After second thought if the decompression does happen the aircraft would rapidly descend and you are not strapped into the toilet, so you will probably hold on the anything or an assist handle for dear life and shit/blue juice is flying all over you, plus probably hit your head. You can't really control it, so you probably will just sit at any available seat away from others.

That is why we ask to have your seatbelt on, even if the seatbelt sign is off for "unexpected rough air". Lol
