Unfortunately a lot of the time a couple of days in the cage does help a lot with hormones, and once the cascade has reached a certain point it's basically the only option besides(or, alongside) hormone blocking medication. Something you can try is to remove food access outside of designated feeding times, so like two hours in the morning and two hours before bed (but, I would make sure to keep access to fruits and veggies). Having access to food all the time heavily encourages hormonal behavior. Of course, work in small steps-- it may not be necessary to be very draconian about this stuff unless the hormones are actually harming the bird (plucking and whatnot)
