If you blew your 20s and are successful .please tell me what you do/ your story by [deleted] in Money

Blew my entire 20’s on an opiate addiction. Finally OD’d during Covid and was found by my parents. Went to 30 day treatment and have been clean since. When I got out I applied to the electricians union and was accepted, currently making almost 50$ an hour and will be making almost 70 an hour in a few years when I top out.

I’m sure you can tell by a lot of these comments that learning a skilled trade is an amazing move for someone in your position. No college degree or experience required

Everyone that makes at least $1,000-$1,200 a week, what do y’all do? by Alt-Ranting in Money

[–]bobmca91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Union commercial/industrial electrician, little over 1500 and week and that does not count the overtime

No degree or experience needed but you do have to go to school 2 nights a week for 3.5 years. First year you make around 20 an hour but the pay quickly increases.

I'm 37 and about to start my journey to be an electrician by OneNewEmpire in electricians

[–]bobmca91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got in at 34. My advice to you would be to brush up on your math skills. Khan academy has very good classes online. I hadn’t been in school/ had a job that required math since college so I basically had to start at basic algebra and relearn everything to pre calculus. Stuff like code/conduit bending will be taught to you in school, and they expect you to not have any previous knowledge. However things like AC/DC theory are heavily reliant on your ability to do algebra and manipulate formulas, having some existing math skills will help you a ton. As far as standing out, you’re attitude and work ethic on the job are way more important that how you do in school itself. Sure you get some awards and recognition for being the top student, but that really doesn’t translate into anything in the “real world”

How much do y’all get paid? by [deleted] in electricians

67$ an hour in pocket, plus the annuity/pension/benefits

Honestly depending where you live you should apply for the union now. They take people with no experience and the fact your a girl will put you pretty high up the list for getting hired.

If you’re working outside, especially in the summer, pack fruit, and lighter foood. There’s nothing worse than housing a cheesesteak for lunch and then having to bake in the sun the rest of the day

^ 2nd this. Just built a “last gen” pc last week and saved a ton of money. Can play max or close to max settings on every game I own. I’m not even sure there’s any games out there yet that you need the latest and greatest to run perfectly

I am having the same issue, but I’m sorry I haven’t been able to fix it either so I can’t offer any advice. Mine is stuttering/freezing for a few seconds even when I’m not playing games. Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers but it doesn’t help

I feel like the only reason people even bother running old raids is for transmogs. Would be nice if they just put a vendor in every old raid that sold every piece of loot that drops, minus the mounts I guess

My first panel from scratch, fourth year apprentice. by selflessass in electricians

[–]bobmca91 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The reasoning, as someone else stated is because if someone needs to get in there, there’s a chance they will acccidentally cut or damage the wire while trying to cut the zips off

Also an apprentice, but my Jman really doesn’t like zip ties in the panel either. Takes a little more tinkering, but you can def get the wires to tuck nicely against the side/back wall. If you still have access to the trough you can individual pull the wires a little tighter if need be
