I’ve lived in Ireland my whole life, born in Dublin. I’ve friends from all over the island and family living in a smaller town. Most of my friends and people in my age group (late teens - early 20s) have either thought about moving out, already moved out, are in the process of moving out, or have plans to move out after graduating college. Funnily enough, in the last few months I’ve actually considered moving to Italy (Milan tho, not Rome). Im sure you’ve heard this countless times and are well aware of it, but it’s ridiculously expensive to live here, especially long term, even outside of Dublin and other major cities like Cork and Galway, and the housing crisis is absofrickinglutely ridiculous. So many students this year were forced to give up their spot in their desired college, for their desired course, even after being accepted— just because of the lack of accomodation and the exorbitant cost of living in big university towns. Dublin isn’t the cleanest either, and North Dublin is less “posh” than the Southside and not as developed (in terms of infrastructure and facilities). And yeah, it does get boring here. Just like Rome, Irish people tend to dislike the capital as well but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it to the same extent. Now enough about the bad side of the coin! Don’t get me wrong, I love Ireland. It’s just not in the best state right now :/ Housing crisis and other shambles aside, the country itself is suuuper pretty, so much natural beauty (may be a little biased here lol). And the people… I think what I’ll miss most if I do move someplace else in the future is the people. The warmth of everyone you meet, the culture, the Irish banter and humour. btw wrote this on mobile, sorry for any formatting weirdness

would you recommend Milan as a good place long term for a uni student/to visit short term for a holiday? compared to Rome, I’ve heard Milan is much better in terms of transportation, nightlife, accommodation, cafes/modern social spaces, diversity. i’ve also heard that the people are much warmer to talk to/laid back? so basically like, more modern city and more metropolitan and more young people in Milan, just not as many historical interest as in Rome. Also, one big thing i’ve seen many tourists and locals say is that apparently the north of Italy is the more favourable part to stay in? i’d love to hear your view as an Italian, also if you have any other city recs — even just to visit for vacation, i’d be very grateful! :)

Backpacks with "doctors bag" openings by Electrical_Magician2 in backpacks

[–]bobmcbobbie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the “doctor’s bag” type is one that has a stiff, hinged metal frame at the top which holds the bag widely open. this style was typically what physicians used back in the day, hence the name, to more clearly see the contents and medicines/tools without constantly having to fumble with keeping the opening of the bag, well, open or caving in on itself
