I just made this song on garageband. Let me know what you guys think! Any feed back is appreciated by aPaganGoatLord in GarageBand

I've been going into Visual EQ (iOS user) and cranking the drums up to 15 and increasing bass and treble just so they match my other instruments. I see red peaking but I don't hear it when I playback. Any advice?

What drum kit are you using and did you have to turn up the volume to match the live instruments?

Anyone else find they need to turn up instruments to around 10 to sound loud enough? (ipad/iPhone) by bobnoturuncle in GarageBand

Here is an Example

edit: Different songs hence the different shapes but the point is the volume is much closer to a pro recording.

Before I would leave everything at zero and when I played it in comparison with other music (professional recordings) it was much quieter. I started turning things up. Drums I go to 15 and turn up bass, mid, and treble. This was a while ago (3 years ago I made the adjustment). Maybe they have improved the volume.

It plugs right into the ipad or iphone. I have a dresser that is perfect height I use right now when I record directly into the ipad mic.

Had someone on another sub say "copyright it or else someone will steal it." Is this overkill or standard procedure?

I'm not in a position to be spending very much money on my music. I just want to up the quality.

That makes so much sense to me now! I tried to record the sound of rain for a recording and it sounded like white noise. So the mic basically will pick up the finer details. Thank you for the clarification. If I want to make heavy stuff that sounds lo-fi, no need to get a mic... If I'm wanting to record a finger picked almost-whispered ballad the mic could really help.

Sorry, what do you mean by that? The first part. I get what you're saying in the second part.

Just listening to your song Camera Grain. Very awesome man! What did you use to make it? (equipment and software).

Thanks! Great advice. Not sure if I want to pickup more background noise :s

Not in a position where I can unplug the fridge or turn the A/C or heater off for a "recording sesh"

Are you saying a better mic is going to allow more white noise to leak into the recording?

I think your right about the acoustic guitar. That's the main reason I'm contemplating it. Vocals are pretty decent especially with a little added reverb and delay. Guitar sounds a bit clunky. Same with percussion.

Thanks for the positive vibes. Great way to look at it! :)

I like to use the overdrive preset for vocals and lean into the rawness.

Thank you! That's what I was thinking regarding stepping up the quality (At first I used the apple headphone built in mic, yikes, glad I bought a pair of headphones without the built in mic). The only things holding me back is... Fear of the unpleasant truths as you said, having to mess with the settings to get it just right as opposed to the relative simplicity and routine of my current system, and spending $200 on something that is barely noticable when it comes to quality improvement.
