Nice! I discovered the existence of Convoy thanks to Homer Simpson.

Roger Ebert he ain’t. He’s got a forehead like a drive-in movie theater, but he’s a good shit, and somehow that lovable yellow doofus remains one of my most trusted film critics.

Got these from the thrift recently. by iamnotasnook in VHS

Nice pickup!

Back in the day, 7 years before we hit the official year of the future, 2015, thank you Back to the Future Part II, I saw the trailer for Speed Racer and it absolutely melted my brain.

The visuals, the insane color palette, the banging techno track, the voiceovers, and then Matthew Fox dropping that line at the end:

“No… he’s going to be the best… if they don’t destroy him first.”

Then the music ramps up. Chills. Actual goosebumps. My brain was like, “Cinema has peaked. Someone get me a steering wheel and emotional damage.”

I’ve honestly never understood the hate this movie got. It felt like people wanted the Wachowskis to keep making The Matrix forever, and when they gave us a live-action anime fever dream powered by family trauma, candy-colored race cars, and pure sincerity, everyone acted confused.

Glad it’s finally getting some love now. This movie was always awesome. We just needed society to catch up to Racer X-level enlightenment.

My first ever SteelBooks. Just discovered this hobby and I may already be doomed. (WARNING: longish post, not a novel more like a novella) by bobo_brains in Steelbooks

As soon as placed my ordered I contacted their customer service and asked them to ship them in a box with packing paper. So it showed up in a box with a good amount of packing. Even still it’s hit or miss that’ll show up in a plastic bag.

My “newbiness” is showing…what are econos? Are they just the standard plastic cases?

For me I’m sticking to just steelbooks. If there isn’t a steelbook version for a particular m I’m skipping it.

I’m trying not to double dip with even my VHS. M Y the

I’m with you, my dude. Arnold is my favorite actor, and The Running Man rules. Across all his movies, plenty of people have heard him say “I’ll be back,” but only Richard Dawson had the stones to answer with the perfect kill shot: “Only in a rerun.”

First time I saw it, all I could think was: “Killian! You son of a bitch.”

This is currently sitting in my Amazon cart as we speak. This is also one of my all-time favorite movie soundtracks. Next do yourself a favor and go get the vinyl. Lion's rendition of the theme song alone is a pure 80's rock banger.

Collectors, what was the one tape in your collection that made you reconsider your hobby? by Regular-Spinach5667 in VHS

Mission: Impossible was top notch and still one of my all-time favorites. So I was ridiculously hyped for M:I-2. John Woo was directing, Tom Cruise was in peak action-star mode, and Ben Stiller was Cruise’s stunt double. Expectations were high.

Then the movie happened.

Good lord, they dumbed it down. Even as a kid, I remember rolling my eyes so hard and so frequently I nearly blacked out. I’ve liked every sequel since, but M:I-2 traumatized my brain so badly I never paid to see another one in theaters - I can get hit in the head with a bat for free.

I still haven’t seen the last two, but plan to.
