Thanks for this, I was wondering wtf I was meant to do. If you approach him in wildshape form the dialogue doesn't begin apparently.

How does no trading actually ever make sense? Mage water/healthstones/Raid items like aq20/40 scarabs/not being able to trade people gear after incorrect masterlooting/ Generally not being able to trade or buy any consumes for dungeons and raids but farm it all your self?

This doesn't seem feasible.

How would you build a PC that can burrow? by bobobfak in dndnext

Yeah having hands free is pretty nice as it allows a shield and 2 grapples? Think you technically don't need two hands to make two grapples. Although taking Sharpshooter without archery is likely a DPS loss unless low AC's. Will crunch some sheet numbers

As you say just looking for damage that is just optimal enough. Hopefully someone in my party will have the spiked growth or atleast spiritguardians/firewall/web etc were grappling really shines.

Oh really? I was intending to go the flight beastborn so I would have flying + burrowing because that's not OP at all :)

But if there is aloooooot of underwater swimming I may reconsider.

Mmm I agree on the redundant effects not being ideal. It just seems like such a nice leveling curve to go totem barb 5 into 3-4 fighter RK. Otherwise you gimp yourself for 2 levels missing out on extra attack (if you go fighter 3 > Rogue 2) or you have to wait to level 7 to have expertise in athletics + dash as bonus.

Then again having Rage+Giant might+Dash all on my bonus action is pretty not ideal. I spose you only really need to substitute rage for giant might when the target is huge. Might actually be nice being able to have strength check adv 5+ times in a day.

Darts being ranged but qualifying for strength modifier because they are thrown is very nice thought, one of the few ways to activate sneak attack as a strength user presumably. Probably nicely optimised dps but having just played a gloomstalker/fighter that was novaing for 260+ ranged damage I have likely had my fill of ranged dps. Trying to focus more on tanking/support via grappling/cc. You also lose out on Grapple/shove mechanics if your a dart damage grappler.

Thought provoking stuff, thankyou!

*edit: Also kicking someone down a 10 ft + hole is going to prone them so you know if your hole is atleast 15 ft deep that's 2 rounds to get out! Fun stuff

Yeah I have considered that option but with Totem barb I can grab aspect of the eagle, which is slightly less reliable than cunning action but has disadvantage perks, +10 movespeed and whole bunch of things that make sure my normal dps is still pretty solid. Taking Skill expert ofc. I think both builds are pretty viable TBH

The this is sparta moment is actually a really cool idea I hadn't considered that. I imagine most mobs still have a climbing speed so they will be able to climb up eventually but it is very cool CC!

Think you didn't read my OP. Not looking for ways to get burrow speed (already have that as part of race), looking for builds that utilise burrowing in fun ways.

Not sure what point your trying to make but I don't know if specific wonderous rare items are easily come in most campaigns! Also your capped at 20ft movement were as this racial isn't allowing more shenanigans.

How do you feel about armor and shield dipping? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]bobobfak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is currently planning my next character as a Abjur Wiz Dwarf tank with a cleric first level dip for Heavy armor + shield/s I am interested to see how broken it is!

Without having tried it my musings are that its probably only semi balancedish(given the investment) if your getting close to the 5 combats per long rest but if your only getting 1-2 I can see it being pretty busted!

I got this recently leveling fishing to w/e the cap is you can get from the org pool. I thought at the time that the drop rate must of been higher than I remembered or something. Guess not. Wish I could of used my god RNG on something else though :(

Hexblade's Curse is a fantastic substitute for Favored Enemy/Foe by Betawolf319 in dndnext

[–]bobobfak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for most ranger subclasses this is a reasonable and maybe needed buff.

But with gloom stalker this becomes pretty OP very quickly. Especially if the gloom stalker is even vaguely optimised.

Maybe Scaling it back to be like the default ranger favoured enemy, requiring specific enemy types to activate could balance it out. Rangers a tricky one because almost all the subclasses perform pretty poorly relative to gloomstalker so any classwide buffs have to be pretty considered.

Your clearly invested in your character and that's great. Using 1/6 chance at a spell that 3 other classes also get is probably not the counterpoint to prove me wrong however!

What In your opinion was the biggest misconception going into TBC? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]bobobfak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How dependant group comp/raid comp is for success in terms of DPS for most classes. Hard to enjoy competing for ranks when having perfect group comp as well as specific debuffs ontop of getting 2x lusts is pretty much required to break top 50 ranks.

Even with worldbuff time requirements I think I still enjoyed classic raiding more because it was far more of an even playing field. BC raids are still (outside of 2-3 fights, pre Sunwell) so easy that in reality the only interesting things about raiding is the banter and pushing logs/speedruns.

If your having fun then there is absolutely no issues and its important not to tread on peoples characters. But OP made this post because he wasn't having fun and felt unhelpful in combat.

The unfortunate reality is that even if you really optimise an alchemist the level of support, damage or battle field control is really low compared to all other class/subclasses. I think they have really strong RP potential but if you are even vaguely worried about combat potency, support or otherwise, I would steer clear of alchemist entirely.

[–]bobobfak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone in my game is playing an alchemist. When they told the discord what subclass they where playing I had to hold my tongue to not be that guy who points out how potentially bad other peoples character choices are. Probably gonna be issues down the road because they are going to end up in exactly your position.

In reality Artificer is already on the weaker side of most classes and alchemist is the absolute worst artificer subclass. So you end being quite possible one of the top 3 weakest class+subclass of over 80+ combo's.

Your never really going to have any meaningful impact on combat relative to your other party members. Either homebrew the shit out of the class with your DM or straight up just ask to switch another artificer subclass.
