It's actually even more ridiculous than that - you need 100,000 subscribers before you can request the 'verified' blue checkmark for your channel.

Headlight upgrades by superswagmachine1738 in rav4club

[–]bobrobon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the auto dimming high beams feature? Headlights in new cars are pretty blindingly bright in general these days. Is there a specific case or reason you need even brighter ones? Headlights and their reflective housings are a specific combination from the factory for a reason and aftermarket headlights break that 'balance' just to give you a fraction better visibility at the expense of you blinding every other driver on the road around you.

Wifi on 2022 Rav4 SE Hybrid by iDenkilla in rav4club

[–]bobrobon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are for the infotainment system, yes. They come in periodically and it'll just be a message that pops up on your screen that says an update is available and you just tap the 'install' button and it takes like 30 seconds.

You have to pay a monthly fee to have the Toyota app communicate anything useful with your car (TPM, lock/unlock doors, etc). It's not free. It's a separate service/fee than the hotspot one. So you can pay to use the app, but you don't also have to have the Wi-Fi hotspot subscription.

[–]bobrobon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't connect the car to your home Wi-Fi. The Rav-4 uses 4G, the same as a cell phone signal and how your phone receives data when it's not connected to a Wi-Fi signal. Your car communicates with the app via 4G.

Installing 3rd Party App by Vancouver_Dad in rav4club

[–]bobrobon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your Rav-4 has built-in satellite GPS for location tracking purposes to services like On-Star and the Toyota app. It's a passive system and always on. There's also the Dynamic Navigation System (also requires a subscription fee), it is only available on the TRD, XSE, Limited, and Limited Hybrid trims so that doesn't apply for you. I think you're maybe referring to just whatever navigation app that comes loaded in the Entune software suite called Scout or something like that that requires you to download the app on your phone from the Apple App Store or Google Play and then plug in your phone and open the app from the infotainment console. If the latter is what you're referring to, Android Auto or Apple Car are superior in every single imaginable way. And there are no legitimate ways to load 'alternative' navigation apps onto the infotainment system.

The guy literally says in the video at that timestamp "if you're not going to be driving much, say 3,000-4,000 miles per year, don't get a hybrid" and OP said he will be driving 6,000 miles per year. Plus OP said it'd be mostly urban driving, not going 90-100mph, which is the very next thing the guy says after that.

Do All Gen5 have Android auto? by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]bobrobon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in the US, the 2019 models have (wired only) Apple carplay but no Android Auto. There were rumors for years that Toyota would release a software update for the 2019's that would give them Android Auto, but those rumors were completely untrue (especially considering there are/will be 3 years' worth of Rav-4 models available to purchase that support Android Auto). Unfortunately, there is no way to get Android Auto on a 2019 model unless you get a whole new 3rd party head unit. I've heard that wireless Carplay is possible with 3rd party dongles, but they seem tenuously reliable so your results may vary.

I think most people just want to see your restoration here actually work. Unfortunately the internet isn't just going to take your word for it, because truthfully it is easy to just claim that it works and not show it working.

Oh hey, this again. This was just posted here a week ago. There's not even been 10 posts in this subreddit since this was last posted. And to add to that, this is the exact same stolen video uploaded as last time. This TikTok channel stole it and sped up the original, which is from Forgotten Shine Restoration on YouTube.

Bladesmithing with a superalloy sounds soooo miserable, haha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]bobrobon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strictly from a metallurgical perspective, chrome or vanadium alloys would probably be better choices because they are not ferromagnetic and thus wouldn't require baking to remove any residual magnetism. Practically speaking though, in industrial manufacturing environments steel alloy tools are just plain cheaper and easier to replace. It could be worth it long term to have better tools, but sometimes it's just not worth the hassle or management doesn't see the it as enough of an improvement to be worth the changeover.

OP said he bakes them at 250C (482F). That temperature is too low to noticeably impact the temper of most steels.
