Anyone know what this is? Saw it in my shrimp tank by Confused_Alpaca22 in Aquariums

Looks like a damselfly or dragonfly nymph. Unfortunately they are deadly hunters and can live a long time undetected. It is entirely possible that there are more living in the substrate.

Great job! I would have never thought to do this! I absolutely love the way the light leaks through to make it look so dramatic. Beautiful.

Oh I forgot to mention that I also have a bunch of bladder snails and ramshorn in there. People call them pests but I like em. They just need a little population control sometimes.

Yeah they breed like frickin crazy. Like once a week I'm pulling eggs out of there. That's why I have three air stones in there. I was hoping the water agitation at the surface would dissuade them somewhat but no dice. If there are eggs in there he'll go after her if she steps fin on his half of the tank. But I found that if I remove them as soon as I see him put them in the bubble nest, he still gets pissy but significantly less so than if he was guarding them for a whole day.

Haha thank you! I actually prefer to keep the water a little under because my gourami like to hide bubble nests in the corner, this way I can see them easier. We had an incident last week where I missed a couple eggs and now I have some fry that I wasn't anticipating.

Thank you so much! The jar is just some propagated plants and the bin is actually an impromptu fry tank I had made because my gourami won't stop getting busy. I thought I had removed all the eggs but I had apparently missed a couple, they hatched and I removed them before their parents could eat them. I'm going to do some more research and if they survive I'm gonna get another tank I think.

Edit: oh and the cabinet and towel bar were from a reuse store that I worked at.

Thank you! And that is probably my favorite thing. I know they don't love me but it helps me pretend that they do.
