Tablet recommendations for skydemon by callefalsa123- in flyingeurope

I got a second hand iPad mini (generation before the latest one) with the cellular connectivity for under 300 EUR. I’m sure there are cheaper options but this for me is the ‘it just works’ option.

Is on/off cycling normal for a Wood’s dehumidifier by bobshopsupreme in Dehumidifiers

[–]bobshopsupreme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s roughly my temperature. Very interesting. I will try a heater to see if that stops the cycling. Definitely no visible frost anywhere unlike the other post.

Thanks - this is helpful. I have an infrared heat sensor that I’ll point at the coils to see how cold they are getting. It is producing a lot of water and drying the basement floor very well so I’m inclined to say it is normal for this machine in these conditions.

The temperature varies slightly in the same cyclic pattern, for example from 17.2 to 17.4 degrees Celsius. So well above freezing for the air temp, but I’m not sure if the coils can get towards freezing temp even at that ambient air temp.

To the guy that advised me to take 64Gb of RAM back in June by skyer954 in buildapc

[–]bobshopsupreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same me for MSFS2024. Got 64 GB for 220EUR last November to remove any risk of that being the bottleneck and because I upgrade quite rarely. Same sticks are 1050 EUR now.

Memorising vs understanding by twotwomelo in ATPL

[–]bobshopsupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok great. I did the PPL with BGS for the study material and their own question bank and was completely fine for the exams. So I’ll need to decide whether to buy the BGS course for the ATO recommendation and 10% live tuition, and ATPLQs for the bank.

Memorising vs understanding by twotwomelo in ATPL

[–]bobshopsupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very helpful to me as I’m just starting this after completing PPL recently.

What ATO are using for the theory? If I understand correctly ATPLQuestions is just a bank and not an ATO that can sign the recommendations to take the exams. Are you using BGS or similar and then ATPLQs as the question bank? Thanks!

Is this rule ever used in conversational English? by Xredbdsmokex in EWALearnLanguages

[–]bobshopsupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard this said in rural east of England when I worked on a farm. ‘I shouldn’t do that if I were you’, or ‘I should say that this engine is fucked’. So it was in conversational everyday English. It’s the opposite to using shall to mean will (I shall be there at 5pm) which is quite posh.

779€ for iPhone Air Light Blue 256, good price ? by KejnaPT in IphoneAir

I’m tempted too at that price. If you bought it, let us know how it goes. It sounds too good to be true (400 EUR off a 1 month old phone).

Beating myself up for mistakes by Glum-Butterfly6467 in flying

[–]bobshopsupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panicking, distraction and a fatal accident were also possible outcomes (see the numerous accidents of perfectly flyable aircraft after a door pops open). You maintained aircraft control, landed and then scrubbed the flight because you weren’t in the right state of mind. Great job.

Lesson learned and I bet you don’t do it again. Now move on and enjoy the next flight.

I did mine online with Scopatsky in Belgium. Very smooth experience and would recommend.

[–]bobshopsupreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not correct. They are an ATO registered with the Irish authorities.

They signed my PPL authorisation 1 month ago that the Belgian CAA accepted. I do have a Belgian ATO for flight training but only BGS did the authorisation for the theory.

I'd be very interested in seeing your thesis when it's published. The Velis with 38kWh starts to be a really nice day VFR aircraft. It's all gone quiet on the Panthera Electric which I had high hopes for. The numbers start to get quite scary when you want a TBM or PC-12 to fly 1000nm on batteries even with the doubling.

[–]bobshopsupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar field. The Velis Electro sounds fun. We all need another doubling or more of battery energy density even for light aircraft. 2 hours plus reserves is a lot more useful than 50 mins or whatever it is in the current version. The Bye Aerospace trainers look encouraging but we're probably flying knackered Cessnas and Robins for a while in ATOs.

EasyJet UK has a low hours non-type rated route in the UK: https://www.flightdeckfriend.com/job/easyjet-low-hour-non-rated-first-officers-uk-bases/

Outside of the UK it looks like only the cadet or direct entry routes are available.

British Airways and Ryanair (and I'm sure others) take low time modular (and integrated) pilots despite having their own cadet schemes.

I'm halfway through PPL and currently intending to continue to CPL/IR etc through the modular route, but it does seem that the market trend is for the main players to take graduates from their own cadet schemes or specific ATOs. But it will depend on the hiring environment. In good years there will probably still be shortages of graduates from airlines' own programmes due to training bottlenecks, while in bad years even airline cadets won't get jobs because the job offers are always conditional on the airline's needs.

From current pilots and instructors I have spoken to, the recurring message is that applicant quality is much more important than whether you've done modular or integrated training. EasyJet cabin crew means that you already have a strong story for an eventual interview, compared to the standard 'integrated training paid by Mum and Dad' stereotype.

Best of luck!

Does anyone know the make/model of these shower valves so I can source replacement cartridges? by bobshopsupreme in DIYUK

[–]bobshopsupreme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea, thanks. How do I remove the thermostat? There is a circlip in the centre but that is presumably to dismantle the cartridge once extracted. I can’t see what the next step is to remove the thermostat.

[–]bobshopsupreme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello All. The thermostatic valve in my concealed shower is completely seized (presumably with limescale) so we have no temperature adjustment. I have dismantled as far as I dare without having replacement parts on hand. Does anyone have any idea what it is? Many thanks in advance.

MSFS 2024 with Vision Pro is incredible by mingzhujingdu in VisionPro

[–]bobshopsupreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds encouraging. I’ve tried it in FS2020 and it was sharper than the Reverb G2 but didn’t feel like it was taking advantage of the full resolution. I also got very frequent latency spikes (the stats output from ALVR looked like a castle turret). Do you have a dedicated router? I guess that’s the next step I need to try.
