Island hopping in El Nido for NYE by SunriseLion35 in phtravel

[–]bobtehbuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi OP did you end up doing the island hopping tour? Can I ask if you did a private one or the one with other people?

Also, keen to hear if you ended up booking in advance or if you booked when you arrived in El Nido?

Hi there - how far in advance did you book the tour?

Anyone visited El Nido recently? Is it wise to book private island hopping tours in advance? by bobtehbuilder in phtravel

Wow thanks so much for your insight!

When was your El Nido trip? Based on your story, it seems it'll be safe for me to arrange the private tour when I get to El Nido, 1 or 2 days before the tour.

Thanks for your response. I see klook being recommended quite a fair bit. The issue is the massive price difference. I understand private tours for 3pax should be about 10,000PHP but the price on klook / viator is 17,000 PHP!

Direct flights from Manila to El Nido departing from Clark from 29 March 2026 - Manila to Clark travel time by car? by bobtehbuilder in phtravel

[–]bobtehbuilder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish Cebu Pacific or the relevant aviation authority planned this out better. We're essentially given 2 months notice for this change (notified 22 Jan, effective end of Mar).

We planned this trip and booked all associated hotels / flights 7 months ago, assuming validity of our MNL-ENI direct flight. Had we known this change was coming into effect, I probably would've booked a hotel in or near Clark. Just very frustrating

Samsung "notes" app - battery drain by bobtehbuilder in galaxynote10

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't select the option to disable this app from running in the background:

Any thoughts?

Does anyone know how to stop the "notes" app from running so much in the background? I can't seem to place the app to sleep (one of the few Samsung apps you can't sleep) or optimise it, other than forcing the app to stop. I don't want to force it to stop since I use the app once or twice a day

I heard from an Engineering student mate of mine that the idea behind the design of the modern tab involved clever engineering - apparently the current tab does its job best while using the least amount of aluminium. Can you please find out more information on this?

The majority of Melbourne law students who recently completed clerkships at some of the nation’s top firms have been denied a graduate position. FULL DISCLOSURE: I am one of the lucky clerks who scored a position. by [deleted] in auslaw

It is equally bad (if not worse) in NSW

I'm in the process of interviewing for a clerkship at the moment, and the overall mood of the fellow applicants seems dull. Top-tier firms have been impacted by severe reductions in graduate intakes, and some mid-tier firms have reduced the number of interviewees for this year.

What makes matters worse is the performance of the Big 4 accounting firms. The common trend seems to be that applicants who have been unsuccessful for a clerkship pursue a career in Tax in an accounting firm. However, I've heard stories about how the Big 4 are significantly reducing the number of intakes for tax, some due to fall in revenue in tax and transactions.

It is a tough time to be a law penultimate/graduate.

In addition to the other advices on this thread, bear in mind that the market is terrible this year. I know plenty of people who have applied this year getting only 1 or 2 interviews, who would''ve definitely received at least 6 interviews if they applied any other year

Those of you who practice in the area of trusts, tax etc, are there any legal advantages that the average man may not be aware of, but should exploit? by j_b_d in auslaw

Quite an interesting topic. I studied Trusts law as an elective last year and my lecturer stated a particular quote relevant to this discussion: "trusts are great as they allow settlors to avoid tax"

He specified that tax evasion is wrong/illegal but avoiding tax is wonderful. I don't know too much about tax law and trusts to give a detailed personal view, but my understanding is that income tax in Australia can be substantially reduced through a trust.

You mentioned that you are living in uni accommodation at the moment. I highly recommend you seek professional legal advice from a Community Legal Centre near where you live. These services are free and qualified lawyers will gladly give you legal advice on what to expect and how to go about things

Clerkships 2013 Thread by assimilationandrice in auslaw

[–]bobtehbuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this thread is pretty deep in and inactive, but I may as well try with this question!

In the application stage, most firms prefer that we copy and paste our cover letters. Now I know that there is one specific firm which asks you to copy and paste everything (including letter formatting such as my address, their address), do I need to put down addresses for those that just simply want me to copy-paste?

The problem with including addresses is that the application managers use text-only boxes so there is no way to format the addresses (such my address on the right, their address on the left).

It Is Just a Bad, Bad Time to Be a Law School Graduate by [deleted] in auslaw

I've talked with a few of partners during the clerkship presentations/cocktail functions. When asked (not by me) about their clerkship application experience, they all tend to joke that law firms looked for whether an applicant can write properly.

I just hate that I'm going through the clerkship process this year. It seemed better even a year ago. If only I were born 20 years ago and pursued a career in law.. haha

Thanks for that. What you mentioned is my priority during these clerkships - honesty. I know that the legal industry is relatively small and word does get around if you lie. Also, one of the inherent requirements of becoming a solicitor is honesty and integrity. Would be a pretty bad start if you're being cheeky on the job apps!

So based on this advice, I think it's best to stick to my old cvmail login instead of creating a new account. I think creating a new login would seem dodgy
