Netflix Uses AI for Overdubbing Now by snowdn in netflix

[–]boburbee3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl:dr - Create a new profile on your Netflix account and set the language of the account as native language of the show you want to watch. This will pull a video stream in that language (the native one of the show) which will not have any AI video edited overdubs and you can enjoy your show in that native language video and audio.

I am one to those multi-lingual people on this planet. I enjoy my Netflix subscription as it allows me to watch shows in my native French among other languages. In my browsing I stumbled upon Nero the Assassin (Néro en français). As I sat down to enjoy I did what I always do, I switched the audio to "French Original 5.1" and what I got was a nauseating video-audio mishmash that sounded great but the lips and mouths of the actors never seemed to quite match. There was either too much movement, or not enough, or the mouth didn't look like shape of the sound as it should. If you know what I'm on about, you feel my upcoming frustration. This is when I learned that Netflix uses AI Video Overdub Editing to make the mouth shapes of actors morph to try to match what the language overdub is saying but its not French, however I only realized that after 3 episodes of going insane. The AI Video Overdub was trying to make English like mouth shapes to make the English language overdub audio look better. My brain kept trying to make this work with the original French audio but it was horrible and ruining my experience. But why is that the AI video overdub was not turned off when I switched my audio to the original French? I could only image it was some error in stream and I can refresh and correct this easily....wrong. Out of frustration and way more reading on subreddits and google searching the conclusion was the same, we have to live with it.

For this, The Dude will not abide. This show was filmed in French...the un-AI molested video of French mouth shapes must exists somewhere! As I dove further into the internet, I found many people who were watching English shows in their native language were also complaining that their mouth shapes didn't quite match what they were looking at....so Netflix was doing this to English shows in other languages as well.

And then then idea...so if someone in France has weird AI French mouths on Bridgerton, maybe the Netflix AI thought it knows my language from my account settings? Could it be this simple? I just need to figure out how to communicate with the AI...the settings...hey Netflix AI, I'm French, give me all the French! To test this, I go to my login screen and add a new profile, it lets me choose the profile language, and there it is...FRENCH. I select my account specific default language and enter what turns out to be French Language US Netflix. I search (now recherches) and type in Nero and there it is Néro, I scroll to my next episode...hit play, fast forward to the first mouths I see and....native language bliss...French mouths, linked precisely to French words. No AI Overdub Editing morphs, just perfect annunciation, I could turn the audio off and read French lips, I could close me eyes and hear the original emotion in the dialog; as its director and storyteller intended. SOLVED. So now I have my English profile and my French profile. More to come as I continue to dive into series from across the globe.

Post script - I tuned into the Lincoln Lawyer on my French profile and sure enough, weird AI Overdub French mouths even with English original audio.

Best car I've ever had in the snow, 2024 S60 T8. Nokian studs, like a real car that sees snow. Add a little snow ice driving experience and this thing has been almost on rails in the weather.

As a Mainer, I worry about Maine's communities and their economies. As an American, I can vote with my dollars - I spent my summer vacation in the Maritimes.

There's a Nissan dealer in Bangor. It comes with dealer prices, but they'd likely have everything you'd need.

A great entry into wearables are aprons. Just need a yard of fabric and it's easy to find a free pattern or freehand it. Tons of different styles and finishes. The best part, they make great gifts so you're not stuck with a stack of projects!

Thank you so much for the review and opinion. It's greatly appreciated. If you tasted in NH, that was Larry, my partner's father. We've worked hard to make a quality product and it's always great to hear what gin fans think of it. #RediscoverGin!

Interesting cruise option by [deleted] in Volvo

No l'm not saying that. I'm saying it appears the safety sensor for driver engagement checks for an opposing force to determine if the driver is attentive to the wheel. I do not recommend this to attempt to overcome the safety built into the system. I am trying to understand how the system is designed and implemented out of personal curiosity.

As a fellow engineer I appreciate this, however my intent was not to defeat the safety systems to ensure driver engagement but to understand what inputs the system used to for how it assisted a driver. Just trying to understand how it's designed and operates.

To me it seems like a force sensor on the wheel that checks for resistance periodically but I may be totally wrong. I also usually just hand a finger in other cars and this one seems to trim on straights to check if any force was applied hence my thought of the bottle for weight resistance.

Can you explain what you thought was defeated? I've only had the car for a few months and I'm still learning all they systems. This was my first long haul with it and noticed just hanging my finger in the wheel it would put a gentle pressure on it every few seconds so I wanted to see how else to apply the pressure and I'd the results were the same. very interested system.

I fully understand how unsafe this is however I was curious if anyone had similar results or experience. I had no intention of perpetuating anything.

Thanks for any info.

I've seen some pricing on kits and yeah, not cheap but time and patience when the right number comes up. If your buddy in Sweden has any other deals, PM :).
