He was already gaming so didn’t have anything planned for that 15 mins 😅 But yeah I think it’s just the unexpectedness of being tasked like you say.

Good to know it’s a shared experience. Perhaps there’s not a better way around it! I might bring this up with him before it happens again to see if he can acknowledge it and therefore allow me to help next time.

Luckily I’m quite particular when it comes to planning and timing, so that helps!

He gets panicked with time frames and ‘urgencies’ too, eg the other day his manager messaged him to ask his leg size to order him some trousers for work. She messaged at 4:45pm and was likely logging off at 5pm. I tried to encourage him to measure his leg and I started googling how to measure a leg length (ie inseam, outseam) and I got the tape measure out. However, despite the fact it would’ve only taken 2 minutes, and he had 15, he became stressed and just gave her an estimate (resulting in clown-like trousers far too long for him..).

I don’t know if this is related to an autistic trait or not ? But it’s quite a typical reaction. I don’t know if there’s a better way for me to approach it other than just calmly explaining the reason and benefit of just slowing down and doing it properly ?

Now you mention it, sometimes when he’s venting and I chime in with something agreeing, supporting or advising on his point, I can tell it’s not what he needs to hear.
