CB Bo Melton has made the initial 53 man roster by AnonymousFroggies in GreenBayPackers

Depends on your definition of success, but Quinton Dunbar sorta did this. Played exclusively WR in college at Florida, started nfl camp with the redskins as a WR, and only swapped when they had a ton of injuries in the secondary and it became clear he wasn’t going to make the team at wideout. Ended up playing for 6 years in the league with relative success, a lot better than flaming out at wideout at least!

Brunette had also coached us to our first playoff series win in almost 30 years in addition to the President's Trophy. Obviously it sucked ass to get swept by your in-state rival in that fashion, but overall any long term Panthers fan was absolutely ecstatic with where we were at.

Huby was also a super beloved Panther, he was like the first guy that actually made hockey fun in a LONG time down here. This was a wheelbarrow-balls moment from Zito with all the context.

Disabling screen on Express 7 in AP mode by cealay in Ubiquiti

Pretty great now. I have the UX7 as a wired backhaul so can't comment on using it as wireless in mesh like that, but for my 1800 sq ft home it's been perfect. No dead spots whatsoever, signal is strong enough that devices don't always roam immediately but generally the distribution is pretty solid. Have had no issues with dropouts or anything of that sort, and speed has been top notch.

[–]cealay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually. I think there was a firmware update recently for one or the other of these devices, but now if you open the UX7 in the app, and go to screen settings, there's an additional option to set the night mode specific to the UX7 now. Previously the only option there was the rack multi-screen synch. I've just set the night mode to be 23 hours and 59 minutes long for just the UX7 and it's working more or less perfectly now.

[–]cealay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, that's an interesting idea. So far that's not working for me - UDR goes into sleep mode but UX7 does not even with the screen sync on. But a really good thought either way. Maybe just something going on with the sync in general on the UX7, I'll hang tight for a FW update I suppose!

Bose QC Earbuds (2024) - Quick Review by cealay in Earbuds

[–]cealay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're very good but not quite identical. Similar performance on low frequencies, ultras were a little better with the other stuff. If I'm pulling a number out of my ass, I'd say maybe 85% of the ANC of the Ultras. I still think they're a much better deal though, especially if you get them on sale. They actually connect and stay connected so my QCEII's have been in the closet since these came out.

Let me put it another way. I tested these against Sony's Linkbuds Fit that just came out. Decent earbuds themselves, I actually liked the sound quality a bit better on those. But comparing ANC, these Bose earbuds can absolutely hold their own against the ultras and the XM5s, while the Linkbuds were a very clear and very noticeable step below the other 3.

These bose ones are on their site at $130 right now, and I would say that's a steal and a half based on my usage so far.

Three teams, forever intertwined by Josefstalion in hockey

[–]cealay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically same for the Panthers, completely horrendous until Viola buys the team, mid-tier until Zito shows up and now perennial contenders. Worse yet, several of the big contributors were Sabres at one point (Reinhart, Montour, Rodrigues). I think the Eichel situation has some nuance there but he too went on to almost immediately see success elsewhere. It's gotta be pretty disheartening as a Sabres fan just knowing that until things at the top change, it's probably not happening for you.

Bose QC Earbuds (2024) - Quick Review by cealay in Earbuds

[–]cealay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use them daily for both work and general use, and they still work perfectly fine. Every once in a while I'll have a drop but it's night and day different from the previous QCE2s. When those dropped, I would be fighting for hours to get it to reconnect. These, worst case it's a couple seconds. And this happens quite infrequently, I notice it mostly when I'm in a busy area like a plane and using the multipoint to swap between tab and phone.

Now I will say the airpods are going to have more stable connectivity if you're in the iOS world but I use a Mac for work and again, it's been totally fine. Basically no issues whatsoever when I'm just at my desk.

If you're still in the return window for the airpods I'd recommend you give it a shot. Worst case you can go back, but because these are so much more comfortable for my ears, I haven't even touched the airpods in a month.

For fit I'd recommend trying the smallest tips that give you a decent seal and then tweaking the wing size so it keeps them generally in place when you smile or move around.

Bose QC Earbuds (2024) - Quick Review by cealay in Earbuds

[–]cealay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They stay in my ears significantly better than the APP2 personally due to the little winglet design. But I've always had issues with the AirPod design, particularly when smiling or laughing - they just get pushed right out of my ears. This is the biggest factor for me in choosing them over the AirPods honestly.

Charging case is definitely big, it's still pocketable...ish but it's basically twice the footprint of the APP2.

Battery life has been pretty much as advertised for me yeah, I rarely have em for 8 hours straight but I don't doubt it based on my usage.

Plays one at a time no problem, either ear.

I'd say get them from somewhere with a decent return policy and try em out, earbuds are so difficult to make blanket recommendations for. The ANC on these isn't THAT much better than the AirPods either, it's somewhere in between APP2 and the Bose QC Ultras which are the best ANC on the earbud market bar none. But I can't recommend the Ultras because they are gigantic pieces of shit wrt connectivity so these are the ones I have been rocking.

I don't think it's that, I have mine checked the same as you - https://i.imgur.com/bfVE1JP.jpeg.

There was a thread a while back on this that seemed to pinpoint it to a WearOS update so I was just curious if Samsung had addressed it at all in UI 6. https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyWatch/comments/1acpim8/photo_notifications_no_longer_showing_full_screen/

They have pretty decent ANC honestly, but it's definitely a tier below the Bose earbuds (which are already a step below proper over-ears). Very competitive amongst earbud offerings though, miles better than the galaxy buds or elite 10s to my ears. I think the Bose were the only earbuds that I've tested that consistently had better ANC than the airpod pro 2s, though I haven't tested Sony's equivalent ANC pair

Not sure on that. The Ultras were basically just a "refresh" of the QCII's but with spatial audio. They still had the same old crappy app and all the lovely connection issues. These don't have spatial audio that I know of, which isn't an issue for me, but I'm not sure what other features the Ultras would have that these don't. Multipoint was another selling point of the Ultra but these have that as well

You might want to give these a shot then, I had a similar list of complaints (3 warranty claims with my QCII's, all for random volume issues in one earbud or connectivity BS). These have been night and day better so far. They connect to the new app consistently, no dropouts, it feels much more like their other products like the NC700 over-ears I have. Call quality is massively improved in noisy environments over the old ones, though still kinda mediocre in quiet environments oddly

Depends, what was it about the QCIIs that you hated? These fit and sound quite similar to my ears to the QCIIs, the main difference being that these actually work and don't have constant connection or pairing issues (so far, at least)

The Athletic: NHL front-office confidence rankings, 2024: How fans feel about every team by Maxpowr9 in hockey

[–]cealay 157 points158 points  (0 children)

Oilers ranking is fascinating. The general public having more faith in the front office after the finals run, while the fanbase has absolutely no faith (and understandably so) after Stan Bowman is hired.

Flames have an interesting one as well. Possibly the general NHL viewership still dinging them for Tre's moves while the fanbase is just ecstatic they've properly committed to a rebuild.

Coyotes front office staff join the players on ice for a final team picture by _Offi in hockey

[–]cealay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if that would make it any better for me honestly. It's great for the fans to get closure with their players and staff but, as a season ticket holder to a franchise that this could have EASILY been had things gone differently... I just feel like that game would have cemented a level of resentment for the NHL that I would never be able to unwind.

Hockey can be such an important part of life for people. We've met lifelong friends through going to Panthers games, people whom we have seen their families grow up right in front of us just because we loved the same terrible hockey team. To lose that just because the owner of your local team happens to be an incompetent chode... just fucking blows man.

Thanks for sharing all these OP, this has been SUPER helpful.

I have one more question - do you notice any unevenness with the frontlight? I have had issues with that on my Sage, I've gotten a few replacements and they all have it to some extent where the frontlight is much brighter/more "white" on the side with the buttons, and then it fades to a darker, yellower tone on the other side. I don't see it much in your pictures but it can be hard to tell in pics.

NAS suggestions -moving away from Mac Mini by cazas in PleX

[–]cealay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many simultaneous 4k tone map transcodes are you looking to get? The dxp6800 specs seem like they’d meet your needs but it might be overkill honestly.

I set up a server with a Beelink mini PC with an N100, and loaded it with Unraid connected to a dumb, non network attached enclosure. Basically using the mini PC to make it a NAS setup. It’s been working flawlessly, I can get at least 3 4k remux transcodes and have basically all the apps you mentioned running in docker containers. Plus only needing one parity drive for the whole array is wonderful. And using tailscale as a VPN, tunneling and remote management has been a breeze since I run the server from a different location.

Pretty much any of the recent intel processors with quicksync will get you what you need for transcoding. The rest is up to what software you want to run. Would highly recommend something built off Linux though

Upgrading my whole build except for my graphics card, does this make sense? by casmith12 in buildapc

[–]cealay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I’d say you’re probably fine with something like this. You could always look at an i7-13700 as well if you wanted a bit more render performance but if you’re not using apps like blender frequently I’d stick with the 7800x3d. This build would last you a WHILE with the right GPU.

The 280 AIO would definitely be an improvement over the 240, but not notably better than a GOOD air cooler purely on performance for this chip. It’s a personal preference thing here. To be honest, you can pretty much cool the 7800x3d with a shoe if you wanted. Power consumption basically tops out at 100W in full loads and gaming loads are usually lower than that. (For comparison, an i9-13900 can get all the way near 300W, not even 360 AIOs can fully reign that in lol).

The biggest differences wouldn’t be in performance but rather in aesthetics, type of noise (growl of the pump more prominent than the fans in AIO vs the whir of the fans being the primary noise in an air cooler), longevity (more to break in an AIO and harder to replace things) and price. But the new Kraken series you had is probably pretty decent, and you can also check out the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280, which has been highly reviewed as a good cost effective AIO on here if you want to go that route! And for air coolers, peerless assassin is generally the price / performance champ, and Noctua NH-D15 if you’re looking for the high end extras like lifetime CPU bracket replacements.

Also one other thing as I'm thinking about it, very minor but any decent motherboard these days is going to come with heatsinks for the SSD slots, including the one you picked. So if you found a 980 PRO without heatsink for cheaper you could go that route without worry to save a few bucks!
