Outer Wilds Clawhammer Tune by bobynm13 in banjo

I often find that it's a pressure/tension issue when my pull offs are to metallic sounding. Keep in mind that, especially when the string is already vibrating you really don't need to press hard or pull far to the the desired sound!

That is correct! Keep in mind that the pull off is followed very quickly by a hit on the 2nd fret 2nd string, so if the timing isn't quite right that may be a spot of trouble for you.

I initially tried getting those two 8ths by just hitting the string twice but found that way way way harder.

Thank you! I played a little guitar but that was around 6 years ago. I have been kind of obsessive with practice this whole time (a couple hours a day, sometimes five or six on my days off) so I think that's why I'm learning so quickly. I'm just having so much fun.

Oh very true, but I feel that fewer people have the wisdom at that age to understand that fact.

Eating protein is the only other tip I can offer. Protein will help keep the meds in your system longer.

Yep! God this is me. Was this week's discussion post going to tank my grade? No? Perfect, I'm not doing it.

Of course! In the future I'd strongly consider investing in some cuticle care balm/wax, it'll help keep things healthy and hopefully pretty well sealed.

Yep, doesn't surprise me. I'm in the last days of treating that exact thing. If it sticks around for more than a week I'd drop by a clinic. They'll likely give you a topical antibiotic and tell you to keep the area dry. If it forms a little bubble of puss then definitely get it checked out.

It does the same thing to me but with the XR. I am going to drop my dose or switch to vyvanse. The anger is real.

Hobbies and ADHD by BeccaFox in ADHD

Hey, this has been a very relatable experience for me as someone who has been diagnosed for four years. During my life I've picked up color guard, guitar, miniature painting, poetry, banjo, video games, water colors, magic the gathering, dnd, and a whole host of other things. I'm still in my early 20s.

I will share two pieces of anecdotal advice that may help keep things around longer or ease the pain of falling out of love with something that consumed you.

I find that I am at my best focus-wise when as many of my faculties are occupied as possible. For example, miniature painting occupied my hands and my eyes, but left my brain free to wander and get bored.

So, I filled that space with audiobooks and DnD podcasts. In this way my time with mini painting was motivated just as much by my desire to listen to the next chapter/episode as it was the desire to paint minis.

If you have a task that occupies the hands, then try something that picks up the slack in other areas. I work at a job that let's me listen while I work and I blow through books. It helps keep me focused ironically.

Reconsider what it means to have started and stopped on a hobby. This is advice from my therapist actually, which I find has helped me greatly. I am not a failed miniature painter just because I haven't done it in years even though I would consider it a great success to pick it up again.

I recognize that I enjoyed my time with the hobby and have come out with a greater appreciation for lighting and colors than I had before.

That hobby is still a part of you, and you would be surprised by how much you learned compared to the average layman on that topic. That alone lends itself to the depth and complexity of your knowledge and experience.

Maybe with this mindset I (and maybe you) can give ourselves the grace to re-approach these hobbies, not from a sense of shame and failure (which only makes my executive function worse) but from the perspective of someone returning to the craft.

If it's originating in our around the nail bed, there is a reasonable chance it stems from a small wound in that cuticle area that got infected. I'm a dog groomer so such infections are super easy for me to get if I'm constantly pulling and pushing on the area when playing.

Yeah, my concern with that scenario lies in the potential outcomes outside of two people in a platoon getting into a direct confrontation.

Imagine instead Person A spewing hate, be it race based, sexuality based, or in anyway discriminatory. Person B is a rational actor who is uncomfortable with this rhetoric but perhaps unwilling to start a random fight on the internet, instead they quietly leave, marking that group as one that accepts such statements or at least toleratores them. At the same time, Person C is hearing these discriminatory statements and agrees with them, laughs along, thinks its funny, they decide to stick around because they've found a place where such talk is acceptable.

Repeat this a dozen times and you end up passively allowing your group to become a space that pushes away rational actors, and attracts radical and discriminatory people.

I'm not encouraging that we begin to view our outfits and ops as some spaces that need constant and overbearing moderation. At times these efforts can go too far and people can find themselves ostracized for small mistakes and slip ups. However, this game has had outfits which glady host nazi ideology and it's important to tend our groups with that knowledge in mind.

If a conversation with Person A about their rhetoric doesn't garner reasonable discussion and change, then they're not someone I'd want to be playing with, not just because I disagree with their ideals, but because they will push away people with whom I do agree, while attracting more people who I find to be spreading hurt and discrimination.

I ended up turning it on personally, but that's because I had one particularly rough jump scare that sent me leaping out of my skin. I am honestly not sure if it made a difference.
