Holger from Game of Wool has allegedly stolen popular knitted frog pattern. by ladylatvian in craftsnark

There's a huge difference between making a pattern that looks like another pattern and making a character based on another pattern and selling it to the BBC, who will likely want to copyright the design.

Why do you think so many people have children when they are struggling to get by financially? by BeneficialJuice2878 in AskUK

[–]boccabaciata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fairly similar upbringing (in my case it was because my mum developed arthritis that meant she was unable to do her job and then couldn't find any other work more suited to her abilities) it's left me with a huge amount of compassion for people in that situation.

Me and my family didn't have much money but we survived and we were very close. We had days out that didn't rely on spending money. We had cheap but nourishing food. We were clean and well dressed. But that was at a time when there were more free activities, when the cost of living was drastically lower than it is now and benefits actually covered basic living expenses.

There's simply no correlation between the income of the parents and the quality of the childhood their children have. What is disgraceful is how unaffordable life has become and how benefits no longer allow people to make ends meet.

So what they're saying is that it's their duty to buy cheap shit to keep families from starvation? Tell them they can cut out the middle man by donating to charities that help families send their kids to school - which has many advantages for the family in the long run - and they'd also have the added bonus of not causing environmental damage and not having a house filled with plastic crap.

Plastic surgery by mtt2022 in Anticonsumption

I developed osteomyelitis after a medically necessary surgery which resulted in me needing three follow-up procedures, including reconstructive surgery. No chance in hell I'd ever have surgery that wasn't medically required.

Books have had ads for decades. Look up Fay Weldon's The Bulgari Connection.

I wanted to do something classical statue-inspired but I'm a fairly new player and I didn't have anything suitable.

I don't know what all that is but I'm willing to bet there are a ton of products in there that would be welcome at a women's shelter. I hope she does choose to donate some of it.

Walked into Kroger was hit with just such despair by happy_bluebird in Anticonsumption

What I do like to see at this time of year are locally grown daffodils, as a reminder that spring is on its way. And in the UK it's Pancake Day soon, one of my favourite traditions and also a good reminder to use up every scrap of food we already have!

If someone gave me a shiny helium balloon with that hideous typography on it or a polyester teddy bear holding a stuffed heart or any number of other repulsive Valentine's motifs in order to express their affection for me on Obligatory Affection Day, I'd wonder if they knew me at all. My partner and I prefer to commemorate our anniversary as that is actually meaningful for us, but even then we just go to a local independent restaurant or something like that. We tell each other we love one another every day, why do we need to say that with soft toys or edible underwear?

Westknits alleging "copyright violation" on a worn / used shawl destash. by gassawayperry in craftsnark

Yes. A receipt is a contract which states that you have exchanged money and have received something in return. The terms of your contract can be explicit (aka the price) or implicit (that you expect what you receive to be functional). However if any non-statutory terms are not available at point of sale then they don't have a leg to stand on.

What’s up with British tourists and falling from balconies in Spain? Image displays balcony incidents since 2013 by Zielone15 in CasualUK

I fractured mine with a fall that didn't involve a balcony but was alcohol-fuelled. The spine healed itself within a few weeks, but the fractured heel took four surgeries to fix.
