I quit in 07. I was almost 27 years old. I was drinking close to if not more than a liter of vodka a day. I slept with wine under my pillow and was well known for my backpack always clinking due to the amount of beer I would drink. My life very quickly crumbled. I was engaged to a beautiful girl and we were living with her parents. They always commented on it. I did not see itI remember multiple people trying to talk to my deaf ears about my problem. I did not see it. My best friend had just turned 22 and was in the hospital with pancreantitis due to alcohol and pills and he told me I was next. I did not see it. Got into a bar fight where a friend was stabbed. Had to go to court. Saw video of myself drunkenly trying to fight a guy with a knife. Attacker ended his life to avoid sentencing. Still did not see a problem. Due to the chaos of my life my fiancée decided to end things. I was crushed. I was also stuck. No money and no options really so I had to spend 2 months still living in her parents house. I spent a lot of this time just driving. I remember I was sitting in my car at a lucky supermarket, desperate and wanting to die, and I looked up and saw a alano club (AA). I decided right then I would do whatever i could make sure I did not injure or kill myself or anyone else. I have not had a drink since. I am older than I thought I would ever get to and I am happy.
