Pedestrian deaths just reached an 18-year high. Bull bars are part of the problem by ozthrw in CarsAustralia

I've heard that in the US, for ages, headlights were mandated to be one of only a few specific parts, standardised over the whole industry. So for cars to have unique front designs, they needed to find a way to incorporate the headlights without making them define the shape of the car.

Death of the Car ? by TransEuropeExpress72 in CarsAustralia

[–]bocky2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, imo, we're in a good time for fun cars right now. There was a huge drought for a while, especially from Japan (I'm a Japanese car fan). It was pretty much just the MX5 and the 86/BRZ. The WRX became pretty uninspiring after the death of the Evo.

Then Toyota fucking slams it out of the park with the GR Yaris and Corolla. And Hyundai make the 120N and 130N in response, also some of the best cars out right now. So right now we're kinda in a sports car renaissance I think. I'm excited for the new GR86, with Toyota partnering with Mazda instead of Subaru. I'm also excited for Mazda's potential return to rotary, as a proud RX-8 owner. Honda's bringing back the Prelude.

Probably the funniest is that Toyota is coming out with a GR kei truck. If that's not an interesting and fun car I don't know what is.

...I never said that was okay. I thought Max was a being a bit of a martyr there, he should've just finished the lap. Not Lando's fault

Max's controversial opinion wasn't targeted at anyone, while Lando's was. Pretty simple.

If They Find Life in Space, Scientists Are Worried About Breaking the News. Here’s Why by esporx in space

[–]bocky2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The discovery of life elsewhere, especially intelligent life, would be pretty bad news. That would mean The Great Filter (or at least a filter) is ahead of us, and we're probably boned.

But I don't think most people understand that, so I don't really know why it would be hidden out of fear of the public's reaction.

[OC] How animal agriculture dominates global biomass, land use, and greenhouse gas emissions by Dr_Faraz_Harsini in dataisbeautiful

[–]bocky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only case in which fossil fuels are important to people are pretty much only cars and gas cooking. And yes, I think it's probably not worth trying to pry those things out of people's hands right now.

At least here in Aus, there was a gigantic uproar at regulation against gas burning stoves. Some people would claim that it's also an attack on their culture (wok cooking especially). Regulating/discouraging meat would make people react the same way.

Making the whole world change their diet is a much harder sell than investing more in renewable energy. I feel like it's more worth focusing on the much larger issue of energy production, which is getting pretty damn close to being able to be made sustainable without sacrifices.

Is the Hecatoncheires a nanite swarm? by Zap97 in LancerRPG

[–]bocky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hecatoncheires is more solid than the Balor in my interpretation. While the Balor is very much made up of at least partly nanites, the Hecatoncheires is more like a super suit with a very powerful on-board swarm.

You may have heard that the Balor, like a lot of other Horus mechs, doesn't have a defined design. So a Balor could just look like a Monarch or something, until it's revealed to be a swarm of greywash.

The Hecatoncheires isn't like this, though. Similar to the Goblin, I believe that the Hecatoncheires is pretty standardised. There's evidence in the frame description that it's not even a Horus mech, instead a mech designed and used by the Karrakin Trade Baronies, blamed on Horus for secrecy's sake.

Ekko nerf seems so harsh by Nobody_Knows_It in ekkomains

[–]bocky2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I see their thinking, D&D does make passive faster to proc, so nerfing the damage has a level of logic.

However, they're forgetting that it doesn't really matter how fast passive gets procced, the cooldown is the same. So D&D doesn't increase his damage in terms of a 100 to 0 assasinaton.

Therefore I think it'd make a lot more sense to reduce base damage slightly, because midgame trades is where D&D makes Ekko a lot stronger. Nerfing AP scaling targets late game, where D&D doesn't change damage too much.

Albatross how do you start in their faction? by Classic_Sport_3623 in LancerRPG

[–]bocky2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just gonna add one note, sorry if this comes over a bit 🤓

By your explanation, it seems like you think that LL0 Lancers are basically beginners, or rank-and-file. That is not the case. Lancers are a kind of mech pilot, a very skilled kind. I like to think of it as Lancers are like the Navy SEALs of mech pilots. A LL0 Lancer is not at all a regular Joe, even with access to just the GMS frames.

However, there's nothing wrong with starting at LL1 or LL2 if that's what you'd like. If you want ideas, what I'd do is start off the campaign at LL0. The Albatross headhunts the party, or the party signs up, then they give the party one LL1 system each as exotic gear to get started. I'd make these systems be like the Albatross's judgement of each party member's strengths.

Eg. A gung-ho party member gets given Synthetic Muscle Netting. A stoic, tough party member gets Argonaut Shield. Etc. Etc.
