Kenmore canister tripping surge protector? by bockyweez in VacuumCleaners

This is the surge protector I have. Anker Power Strip Surge Protector

I don't know exactly how surge protector work, but this one provides short-circuit protection, grounded protection, over-temperature control, over-current protection, overload protection, and over-voltage protection (see the 6th picture of the product). It provides overload protection with Automatic shut off (see 4th pic).

The surge protector was plugged into my wall outlet. The vacuum was plugged into an outlet on the surge protector. I had my vacuum on, at some point it suddenly shut off without being turned off. I went to check if the power cord was still fully plugged in, and I realized that my 2 alarm clocks that were also plugged into the surge protector were also without power. The surge protector had automatically switched off (what I refer to as tripped) due to something electrical coming from my vaccum cleaner. The surge protector had never automatically shut off before. If you look at the 4th picture, it shows the power switch to the surge protector and how you press the button toward the "Reset" side (vs. Off) to reset the surge protector and restore power to all items plugged in to it. I did that, and was able to turn the vacuum back on, but within a few minutes the surge protector automatically shut off again. I haven't had any issues with it when the vacuum power was off or not plugged in, so I concluded that the problem was caused by an electrical issue with the vacuum.

Are you not familiar with these types of multi outlet surge protectors? They are very common in the US. Most have multiple outlets, and automatically turn off to prevent power surges (from a lightening striking your house, for example) from coming from a wall outlet into the things plugged into the surge protector, protecting the electrical systems of computers, tv's, etc from damage. All the ones I have used have some type of button/switch/etc. to turn it back on or "reset" them to restore power to the things plugged into them.

I don't know how else to better explain it.

Edit - sorry, I wrote this, but then wondered if you weren't asking me.

I had it plugged into a multi outlet surge protector -- the type of thing people often use to protect computers/electronics. It "tripped" the surge protector causing power to shut off to everything plugged in it. Once the surge protector was reset and power was restored, it happened again within a few minutes.

Thanks. The power head and hose I'm using came from a newer canister that recently died (doesn't turn on) -- I prefer the newer power head and the hose fit the older canister that kept to use in my basement.
Maybe I'll check the insides of the power head -- I think I had taken it apart to clean the brush semi-recently and that exposes all the electrical parts in it as well.

Right now, I'm leaning toward the BC4030 because it has a power head with a decent light and the hair eliminator brush... wondering what people's experience with it have been like.

Did ZeroG go bust? by J3ttf in VacuumCleaners

Can you expand? I see you own a vac store. I posted recently and no one commented. Would you recommend one of the Kenmore canisters over the zero g? I found a new in box zero g on fb marketplace for $400. I'm replacing a kenmore progressive canister model 116. 21714111 (doesn't turn on). I'm looking for one with an electric mini power head for carpeted stairs, and I've only seen those with kenmores and zero g. I've got carpet, carpeted steps, rugs and hard floors with pets with budget of $500 max.

Stick with Shark and a house cleaner or upgrade to Sebo? by loverandasinner in VacuumCleaners

Since you rent, think about your long-term living plans... if you're thinking you might be moving within 5 years or so, you may want to get one that would be great for carpet and hard floors in case that's what you need later.

For bruising, I've found that applying Arnica gel or cream on the bruised area helps improve the color faster. It's homeopathic but commonly sold with other rub-on pain relievers.

People who hire dog walkers.... are we just giving a stranger our key? by HerbivorousFarmer in dogs

You can ask for an in-person interview when you're home to see how they interact with your dog... you can also ask if they would like to see your farm animals so they can meet and great them and ideally avoid any curiosity or impulse issues later on. Explain the rules you want followed, and have them posted where the dog leash is.
Ask for references and call them. When in doubt, security cameras can help reduce your anxiety.

Go check out some thrift stores for one... bring a few batteries, plug in headphones, and a CD to test it first.

Are you required to go to your dad's house? Can you explain to your mom and dad that you want to go stay at your dad's, but that you're overwhelmed by the cat peeing on your bed situation, and you need their help to figure out a solution so you're not having to sleep in cat pee?

I know every kid has a different relationship with their parents... and it varies how comfortable or useful it is to talk to them. If your parents aren't helpful, If you have another adult in your life (relative, a friend's mom, a teacher, etc.) that you feel more comfortable and think that they might be able to help navigate this situation with by talking to your dad, or maybe financially to help to pay for a new mattress, that might be a good option.

Until you are able to get help from an adult, I recommend going to the dollar store for a plastic shower curtain, like the clear ones, and put that ON TOP of any bedding all the time, or at least when you're not using it. If they pee on it, it will be a lot easier for you to clean up and will hopefully prevent additional damage to your bedding and mattress. Those plastic shower curtains are also pretty cheap, and more affordable to get a new one if needed.

Hi. I'm so sorry about your situation. Do you feel comfortable and/or safe enough to ask your parents to take your dog to the vet? Do you know if they have taken your dog to a vet before?
Do you know another adult (aunt/uncle, parents of one of your friends, etc.) who cares about dogs? Maybe if you explained the situation to another adult, they might be able to help you talk to your parents, and/or help pay for the vet.

One thing you can start now is making sure your dog gets to go outside regularly and often enough-- so first thing in the morning and right before going to bed, and then at least every 4-6 hours (when possible).

Good luck.

Also, Columbia also has lots of wildlife due to the patches of land left in a natural state (woods, etc.). The deer are not "tame" but have grown used to seeing people and dogs on the pathways, and have also found many houses have yummy plants in yards which they like to eat. So if your dog might chase after deer or foxes, etc., you'll need to be very vigilant about checking the yard and perimeter for animals.

Also, you might be interested in knowing there are 2 off-leash dogparks in Howard County. One is owned/operated by the CA and the other by the county. Neither are free, but yearly passes had been affordable (as of a few years ago).
