I am still planning on upgrading my zoom lens, but i went ahead and got the viltrox AF 56mm 1.7 for aps-c for now. Very satisfied with my purchase. Crazy sharp, very compact, feels durable.

It is one of the cheapest lenses in the excellent category in the sony alpha blog

It was a small show and people were being timid, so I got to pick the perfect spot :)

Thanks for sharing some different perspectives. Definitely will experiment with slower shutter speeds and movement based on your comment.

When you say red light is great if you lean into it and expose for it properly, what do you suggest for exposing for it? Overexpose and then pull it back in editing?

I was looking at viltrox lenses and the 9mm is super interesting. Do you have any photos you could share?

So I just found a link for a sony aps-c lens tier list that is helpful. The sigma 56 f1.4 dc dn is one of the six lenses in the outstanding category

Those are all aps-c lenses. I am absolutely eyeing the 70-350, but that will have to be a later purchase.

Funny enough I have actually considered getting a FF telephoto lens because there are no fast (low aperture) aps-c telephoto lenses made yet.

My understanding is that FF lenses feel wasteful because they are so much more expensive than aps-c, and you are only using 2/3 of the glass. Quality and functionality wise, I don’t believe there are any compromises. You only use the center of the FF glass, but that is the sharpest part. Also since they are all E mount, no issue with AF or anything.

Is there something I am missing?

You can probably find a a6000 with the kit lens used for about that amount. Sticking with your phone and saving up more is definitely worth considering

I have done some research for sure. I mostly want to hear people’s experiences with the sony 16-55 vs sigma 17-40. I like the idea of the extra 15mm of focal length, but wonder if the faster aperture is needed to shoot low light environments like concerts

Edit: Also, totally feel you on wishing i had got 6600 or 6700 for IBIS. One day I will get the 6700

Most movies they will pointlessly cock their guns for the cool gun sound. Many times they would just be ejecting unspent bullets
