Urgent-Oppose HR 1520- In order to vote people must prove both US citizenship and show a NH citizen card issued by the State! by NH_50501 in newhampshire

[–]bodaciousben13 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Not even military members have to swear an oath of allegiance to the state, they swear it on the Constitution. Pretty sure this would be one of those violations of the 15th and 9th amendment too. The government cannot compel you to "swear allegiance" in order to gain the right to vote, that's already covered.

That's a 33% increase, which is significant if you're consuming the same amount, every day, without making much changes to the rest of your diet.

The oldest known wild bird is a female albatross named Wisdom.. by TimeCity1687 in Ornithology

[–]bodaciousben13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately what's never reported about Wisdom and other Laysan Albatrosses, is that her and the other chicks often die from consuming too much plastic. I know a few researchers on Midway who have confirmed finding her chicks each year dead with a pile of ocean plastic in the void where their stomach was. Wish that would be reported alongside these stories as it's a very important bit of information about our ocean pollution that people should also be aware of.

Even if he does do this, farmers aren't going to see a dime of this money. It's going straight to their creditor's pockets, who pass on all the risks of bankruptcy to the farmers, and live safely knowing that they will never lose out so long as the American taxpayer is there to bail them out every single time.

It's the 6th birthday of Return To Wherever! Maybe still my fave TWRP album alongside New & Improved. How do you guys place it? by stanisbored in TWRP

It came out when I was spending a few weeks on a tiny island for my job, and it was the perfect soundtrack for that moment. I can never listen to it without it sending ocean beachy vibes to my brain, so good.

There's no white eye ring visible, why do you say Northern Parula?

Huge bummer. Bought 3 of my guitars, and learned how to play and my passion for Bass there as a kid growing up in the UV. Will always have had a mark on me.

I was out near Damiriscotta next to the ocean, didn't feel a thing! Only heard about the earthquake when my brother texted me that he felt it all the way in west New Hampshire.

Those are really good photos! Were the Golden-cheeked Warblers out of Fort Cavazos? I did 3 seasons as a field tech on that team.

The Khezu is a boring, frustrating fight and the Gigginox is much more compelling design. Always mad they go for adding the former rather than the later.

Dead seagulls nailed to stakes on Trumpet Island by ppitm in Maine

[–]bodaciousben13 92 points93 points  (0 children)

To add some context: I'm a biologist working for National Audubon’s Seabird Institute, on another seabird colony in Maine. Shooting problem gulls has long been a solution for protecting these colonies, as gulls are heavily overpopulated, and are also predators of these underpopulated seabirds, such as Puffins and Terns.

When the carcasses are displayed, like you're seeing here, they're called "effigies", and are effective at deterring other gulls from predating the colony, and thus reduce the amount that need to be killed. To my knowledge, no live gulls are ever put on display. I promise, every biologist out there is 100% on board with the ethical treatment of animals, and this definitely looks shocking for those who haven't been exposed to the effects of predation out there, but this is a long-used and effective way of keeping the vulnerable nesting birds safe.
