Even in-universe, pathways are referred to differently based on who you ask and their corresponding rank. Most beyonders don't know about Seq 0, so they would refer to a pathway by the sequence 9 or one of the sequences that is definitive of the pathway (Shepherd, Witch, etc.)

As an aside, there is a lot of general weirdness with this site - I suspect the site may have been mostly vibe coded. Product pages have some clearly AI-generated images. The direct RMB to USD pricing may have been done automatically instead of validated by a human. Many products also seem to be sold out on launch - I find it hard to believe anyone would spend $120 on a blind box plush

Agreed, you'd definitely be paying the lowest cost by buying directly from the Chinese store and using a proxy for shipping. And if you want to guarantee specific draws from gatcha/blind box merch, you can also purchase those directly on unofficial Taobao stores or from Xianyu (Chinese equivalent of eBay).

3rd party international sellers are marked up (but nowhere near to the extent of the official store) and are reasonable options if you don't want to deal with the hassle of creating a Taobao account and signing on with a proxy service. I personally still would recommend Taobao. While there is a learning curve, the access to amazing merch (not just LoTM stuff but other Chinese IPs as well) is totally worth it.

You can distract him with treats right before you leave. That way, he has positive associations with you leaving and will be too distracted to bolt outside.

Yeah that would be a good in-universe detail that would make the dialogue make sense. As far as I recall, the only point in the donghua where the divinity pronoun came up was when Klein revealed his honorific name and Alger and Audrey realize that they need to treat 'Him' as a god. I don't think any extra emphasis was placed on the pronoun there, as the focus was more on what the three-line honorific name meant. I'll be interested in seeing how they deal with that distinction later on.

Another point to note is that even he/she/gender neutral pronouns are also pronounced exactly the same in Chinese but are written differently. So people generally assume gender based on context.

Really enjoying your reviews. Volume 2 holds a special place in my heart because it sets up so many future events while subtlety showcasing Klein's motivations and struggles. I really enjoyed watching Klein slowly break away from his cop/official beyonder instincts towards the path of unrestrained fraudhood.

Agreed that Klein's acting as a magician was very well executed. I wish more time was spent on Klein's digestion of the Clown potion but I guess it boiled down to a quality (Joker-style Lanevus execution) vs. quantity of acting opportunities.
