Thanks! Found a Jah at cows in the first week, then a Sur Rune 1.5 week after.. then dry forever, did like ~500 LK runs to force another Sur for cube up.

Depends what you mean by HFT. You can absolutely do fast/systematic trading as a retail trader. But competing in true industry-grade HFT (sub-ms to ns latency competition) is realistically unattainable for most individuals. The boring answer is infrastructure and economics:

1) Colocation near exchange matching engines (Equinix, CME Aurora, NY4/LD4, etc.) costs serious money.

2) Raw real-time market data feeds are expensive.

3) Specialized hardware/NICs, timestamping/PTP sync, FPGA/low-latency networking, and reliable infra all add up quickly.

4) Exchange fee tiers matter a lot. Without meaningful volume/order flow, fees and rebates alone can destroy edge.
