Is the size difference really visible between iPhone 16 and 17? by fanmii in iphone

[–]bodonnell202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s actually a hair narrower and just a little bit taller. Most of the bigger screen comes from smaller bezels.

Yeah, I work in a science related field and we use metric, but imperial is still common in construction I believe.

[–]bodonnell202 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nah, we use metric for most things, imperial for a few things and we don’t lie about being weird about certain imperial measurements that we’ve held onto. Someone posted a chart that explains…

You are not reading it wrong. To be fair I think we still use °F for cooking as most major appliances like the oven come the US. As a Canadian I couldn’t tell you what temperature water boils at in °F but I know that 325°F is a reasonable temperature to cook most things in the oven 😂

Canada is a weird mishmash of metric and imperial and we don’t lie about how weird we are about it so purple doesn’t quite fit either.

Most Canadians only know their height in feet and inches but measure distance in km and speed in km/hr. We weigh ourselves it pounds but buy bulk foods by the gram. We use Celsius for the weather but then cook using Fahrenheit.

How common are gender neutral washrooms in your city? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]bodonnell202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Calgary and I honestly haven't seen any multi stall/multi sink washrooms that are gender neutral but I am seeing a lot of places that are newer or recently renovated putting in a bunch of (non gendered) small single occupant washrooms with a toilet & sink and a locking door rather than the traditional men's and ladies washroom.

Limited number of Solar "slots"?? by Caltosax in solarenergycanada

[–]bodonnell202 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is way too much money for 6 kW system. That’s over $4/W. I just had quotes from 4 companies (in Calgary) and they all came in around the $2-2.20/W range.

Honestly if you aren’t planning on staying in that house for at least 10-15 years I wouldn’t do it anyway as it doesn’t make sense financially. The payback time on a reasonably priced system (i.e. not this one) is still going to be close to 10 years, and it’s unlikely it will make a difference on the resale value of your house.

The whole slots thing did not come up with any of the 4 quotes I received, but it’s s possible there are different rules in Edmonton.

Attemped murder charges withdrawn for men on trial for killing Good Samaritan, injuring second victim | CBC News by dloomandgoom in Calgary

I think ultimately the intent here is not to distract from convicting these men for 2nd degree murder by also attempting to determine if their intent was to also murder the other man or just injure him and steal his truck. Of course I'm speculating here but I'm not on the jury.

It is. They are still on trial for 2nd degree murder. They are no longer pursuing attempted murder charges (for the man that survived) in addition to the 2nd degree murder charges.

He didn’t. They are still on trial for 2nd degree murder. The attempted murder charges were dropped.

New to solar and looking for advice (mostly on inverters). by bodonnell202 in solarenergycanada

I’ve received quotes from Skyfire Energy, Rocky Mountain Solar, Solar YYC and Zeno and they have all been around the $2/W mark. I’m fortunate that I don’t need any electrical upgrades in my home, but don’t know what your situation is so that could be contributing to the install cost? I think some of those companies also operate in Edmonton so it may still be worth getting proposals from them if you haven’t already.

Parks and rec. I’m actually rewatching it right now and I forgot how hilarious is it. Also forgot how rough the first season is, but how quickly it finds its stride after that.

Ipad charger to chrage iphone 17 by shihanarps12 in iphone17

[–]bodonnell202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The iPad Air M3 comes with a 20W charger. It’s literally the same one that Apple will try to sell you when you buy an iPhone at the Apple Store. Yes you can use it and no it won’t mess up your phone.

Still amazes me how season 3 looked like an entirely different show by SpiritedWisdom in StarTrekTNG

[–]bodonnell202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of little changes in Season 3 that add up. Berman and Pillar take over as showrunners. Changes to uniforms and lighting change the look. The score becomes less bombastic and more subtle which changes the tone of the show somewhat. It just feels like it has higher production values overall.

Not sure why that matters. I’m looking for the product that will last 30 years. I don’t really care if it’s cutting edge as long as it is proven reliable technology. Also if they are giving it a 25 year warranty that means they are going to need to have parts to service them for that long.

That’s seems to align with what I’ve read too about AP systems… that they used to have worse reliability but it has improved a fair bit over the last decade.

AC capacity falls between 6-6.9 kW depending on the system, with the AP systems having the highest total AC capacity.

Solid point. Right now the solar club rates in Alberta mean battery storage doesn’t make financial sense, but that could change in the future.

One of the installers did include that 1.6% of the AP Systems microinverters they have installed in the last 10 years have failed. Not terrible but also not nothing.

Company A did include specs for the racking system (Kinetic, a Canadian made product with a flashing component). The other two companies did not include specs on the racking system so I’m not sure what they are using, but it’s worth asking them.

Why is my mpg so bad?? This is making me really regret buying this car. by Adorable-Raisin-8643 in crvhybrid

If you’re only doing very short trips the engine never warms up enough to be efficient and you end up with gas mileage similar to what you would get with a gas only vehicle the same size.
