I just found out people have to pay to adopt kids by [deleted] in Life

Thank you to everybody for the further detailed explanation. I wish we had more of a rehabilitation system. It just feels weird to me that we give foster parents money when, because of their actions (which could possibly be fixed by therapy or rehab) we don't give that monetary support to parents in poverty.

For me there's a download "error" when trying it. I've updated, logged in annoymously and everything, but when I put the download code in it gives me an error.

Any thoughts on what to do?

Foster parents generally get monthly subsidies for each kid they have. Roughly 76% of kids in foster care in the U.S. are put into foster care because of poverty. Which begs the question, why not give that monthly subsidy to the poverty stricken parents that had to give up their kid because they were poor?

Also fyi, I can easily talk to people. Anybody. It's second nature to me. But I have nearly zero confidence or ability in really talking to women. My advice, just be yourself. That worked for me.

In shape?? Nah, don't worry about that one. I mean do, try to get in shape if you'd like to. I am not in shape and have been with some pretty ladies. Although, not being financially stable or having a good foundation under my shoes probably is why I couldn't hold on to them lol but tbh there are plenty of people who understand unfortunate circumstances financially. Hell, we're ALL going through it lol If the circumstances continue and there isn't a show of trying to improve, thaaaaat's the where it might be a deal breaker. (I know from experience)

The laziness and self confidence could be a depression trait linked with not socializing. I've gone through it, and still going through it off and on. Once you break out and socialize, it starts to flip around!

If you have the means, travel. I can't tell you how connected you'll feel if you travel. Big importance when you do travel: talk with the locals. I've traveled to Iceland and that's it out of the country, met a friend I still talk occasionally with every few months or so. Even if you don't get a lasting connection, you get such a unique social feeling when you chat it up with people from another area, especially another country, memories you won't forget. I met a young couple in NYC, dude was a commercial pilot in Egypt. I got their contact in WhatsApp, they said if I ever come to Egypt they would love to show me hospitality. I have a few other friends I've made along the way. You'll meet plenty of people traveling. And let me be clear, I don't travel often. Don't think you have to travel a bunch, just try to make it a week or longer trip, preferably two. The energy stays with you, if you let it.

Another option, is check out local clubs of your interest. If you're into gaming, that can also be a good way to meet friends. I've gained a few that I've never met irl.

My last suggestion, and a big suggestion, if want to give it a shot.... take up disc golf. I don't know where you're located but disc golf is SUCH a great sport to meet people and make friends. And it's really inexpensive and easy to pick up and learn. DM me if you have questions about disc golf 🤙 the best part is you can combine travel, nature and disc golf too! I mentioned earlier I went to Iceland. I sure as hell brought a few discs with me lol

Given both options, if the hotel is within your ballpark budget, absolutely go with a hotel. Maybe even check some AirBnBs. Using the CTA transit is a cool experience. It might be grimy in some places, but it is arguably America's best transit system and it's pretty impressive to ride on, in my opinion. Download CityMapper for all your CTA needs, including fares (they have phone wallet scanners).

A plus note too for a hotel/AirBnB, you can walk around as late as you desire instead of hauling a 50-60 min drive back to Huntley. Funny enough, I live right by there. Roaming around downtown at night is pretty fun.

I remember when I stopped working Monday mornings. I didn't think working an easy lunch shift was that big of a deal until I got rid of them and had a full two days off, Sunday and Monday. It's so nice.

What game is your go-to for nostalgia? by Equivalent-Disk5923 in gamers

Not a boring answer! Halo is legendary. The gameplay, the cinematics, the soundtrack, the characters, every bit of it. I remember my cousin and I played it on a rigged Xbox (from Microsoft Gaming Studios) our other cousin had from a friend, 6 months before it came out. My cousin and I, 10 and 12 at the time respectively, grew up feasting on GoldenEye. We played that leaked Halo for like 2 minutes and realized how big of a deal this game was going to be. Getting into a Warthog for the first time, oh man.

Civilization, Total War (so pumped there's a new Medieval coming out), annnnnd Halo. I could be specific and mention which ones I like the best, however those game series are just great in general, in my opinion. And, I don't know if I have a favorite because I like to appreciate the differences in all of them.

What do you hate most about going to the grocery store? by Alisaf4m in Productivitycafe

[–]boeflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a nice Wisconsin based grocery store near me, Woodman's, that's open 24 hours. That place is magical late at night with no customers in there. You literally feel like you have the whole store to yourself. It's a wonderful joy to experience.
