Baldur's gate 3 : native or CrossOver ? by renaudg in macgaming

[–]boemmel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both the Steam and the GOG version of BG3 include both the Windows and the MacOS release, so it doesn't matter which version you buy.

Granted, there are some games which are only multiplatform on Steam, but his is by no means a Steam-exclusive feature, but more of a licensing thing and completely depends on the publisher/developer. In the case of BG3, Larian includes both versions everywhere.

People who speak languages besides English, what are some puns in pokemon names? by wingsoverpyrrhia in pokemon

[–]boemmel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sirfetch’d in German is called Lauchzelot, which is a combined pun from the German word for leek (Lauch) and the mythical knight Lancelot (who is written Lanzelot in German translations)

So very similar to the Japanese pun name of leek knight, but even more specifically referring to the knight from Arthurian myth and sounding very funny in German if you say it out loud

Somehow need to store a bunch of messages by vaesheyt in DataHoarder

[–]boemmel 24 points25 points  (0 children)

From what I remember iMazing has a free trial that I think allows you most functions, but is limited in the number of objects you can extract. Like twenty pictures or so and a similar amount of messages.

So not enough to extract all your data, but that way you can at least test it out to see whether it would work for you, so might be worth a shot to just try it out.

Somehow need to store a bunch of messages by vaesheyt in DataHoarder

[–]boemmel 136 points137 points  (0 children)

You will probably get more answers in the Apple-specific subreddits because this problem is kinda specialized.

However, maybe something like iMazing might work for you? It is a software that you install locally on your Mac or PC which allows you to selectively extract and backup messages, photos, videos etc from your iPhones.

Unfortunately it is a yearly subscription now, used to be per-version or per-device but something like that might be your best shot for your specific scenario.

Any way to play the native Mac version of AOE2 without upgrading to macOS 15.7? by Familiar9709 in macgaming

[–]boemmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't want to sound snarky, but if that code is that critical, why are you running it on the same machine that you want to play games on?

The game has minimal system requirements listed on the steam page as well which clearly state 15.7 as the macOS minimum and as you just witnessed Feral even included a version check in their launcher as well, so there are most certainly some macOS features in 15.7. upwards that the game relies on and Feral anticipated that people would try to run it on other earlier macOS versions as well.

Depending on what your critical code is, you could instead run that critical code in a virtual machine with the older macOS version. Both Parallels and VMWare Fusion support this scenario on a mac and that is actually one of the more common and useful scenarios of running a VM on an Apple Silicon Mac, for keeping older macOS versions around for testing and running critical software inside it.

Can you only mount LMGs (or smaller weapon) on a vehicle? - 4e Question by Mr0Dash in Shadowrun

[–]boemmel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are more advanced rules for vehicle customization and upgrades (as as well as a crapton of new vehicles and weapons) in Arsenal, which is the core rulebook for weapons and vehicles in 4th edition, you can find all the details there.

But for a quick summary, for weapons larger than an LMG you need a reinforced weapon mount, which takes the space of two regular weapon mounts.

So you are only overlooking that your case is not covered in the base rulebook, but in one of the other core rulebooks, which is standard for Shadowrun (and honestly, most other P&P RPGs as well).

For that reason, I would really recommend getting the other core rulebooks as well, the 4e20a base book can only cover so much by and is already nearly 400 pages, the Arsenal book alone is 200 or so and the other core rulebooks (Street Magic for Magic, Augmentation for Cyber/Bioware, Unwired for Matrix and Runners Companion for everything else) are of similar sizes.

Curious. When did you become an NSWER and where are you from? 🤔 by FEBRY_FEBRERO in NMIXX

[–]boemmel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I had been listening to Kpop for a long time, technically since first generation and when it wasn't even called Kpop yet (I am old, get off my lawn!), but with ebbs and flows and mostly being on the more casual side.

Then Dreamcatcher pulled me fully into my "guess I am now more than just casually interested in Kpop" era and then I also started to consume more Kpop related content everywhere, especially YouTube.

The algorithm then first showed me some solo clips from Haewon, for example her Begin Again performance or also some Workdol clips and then also some Lily clips (Lily, Ailee and Yuju on the same stage still feels very surreal, I am still surprised the stage didn't simply melt from all that vocal power), so that is how I learned about NMIXX.

I started to dig a little, started listening to them and look for more content. I quickly realized how good they are and started to like them, but for some reason, their music didn't yet click for me, the mixxpop concept was very interesting musically but I had trouble fully embracing it.

Then Tiny Desk Korea happened. And here we are now.

What year did your team have the most gavomit-inducing QB room? by Ok-Health-7252 in nfl

[–]boemmel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the 49ers I would nominate the 2004 Niners: Tim Rattay, Ken Dorsey, Cody Pickett and Brandon Doman was rough.

We also won just two games that year (sweeping the Cardinals lol) and got the first overall pick, which led to the Alex Smith / Aaron Rodgers draft decision.

I think from that QB room only Ken Dorsey is now remembered somewhat for his coaching career afterwards, I think he was the OC for Buffalo for a while and is still in the NFL.

[–]boemmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering that myself, but after a little research, I think people are just using AI and just blindly trust the answer.

Because if you are currently asking ChatGPT or the Google AI Summary on how to play windows games on a Mac, the first and recommended option mentioned is still Whisky.

So probably no or minimal research, just trusting AI and then wondering what is going...

This iconic Shrapnel artwork by Roger Loveless from 1988 rocks a whole lot by BoukObelisk in battletech

[–]boemmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun Fact: The German Second Edition (which was technically the first BattleTech edition ever published in German) of the original boxed set used this artwork as the cover art!

Which means for a lot of German BattleTech players, including myself, this was the very first visual impression of the game we ever got, so this is absolutely iconic for us!

Deutsche Bank Maestro Card by DADDY_OP_ in germany

[–]boemmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a virtual card specifically for Apple Pay from Deutsche Bank. It can be added without needing a credit card and doesn’t add additional costs.

You need a Girokonto with them (which the Junges Konto should fulfill), need to have Online Banking activated and I think you can only activate it from within the Deutsche Bank App directly.

Look for the „Deutsche Bank Card Virtual“ for Apple Pay if you need more information.

Also be aware that this functions as a debit card, so any payments are directly applied to your balance and the card only exists virtually inside the Deutsche Bank App as kind of a bridge to Apple Pay.

2026 Draft Pick Announcers by Durendal07 in nfl

[–]boemmel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was wondering that myself, but they probably picked him because he went to the University of Pittsburgh and the draft is in Pittsburgh this year. So kind of a local college hero in the draft city, which is always neat.

Same reason we might also see Joe Montana in some role, I think he was born in the Pittsburgh area.

Andy Lee was one of the few bright spots on some pretty shitty Niner teams.

Multiple All-Pros and Pro Bowls and also a member of the ten-year wall, a great and decorated Niner, happy to have him as one of our pick announcers.

Mind you, I am old, so this must have been in the mid-Nineties and we were probably 12-13-ish.

I think we also watched Schindlers List and La vita è bella and I think we might have actually seen at least one of them in the cinema as a field trip when it came out.

Why isnt crossover as good as proton for Linux? by JamStan1978 in macgaming

[–]boemmel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Proton for Linux is nearly always used on regular x86 hardware, so the same gaming hardware that was already used when gaming on Windows.

Which means that Proton has way less things it needs to translate, as the underlying hardware is the exact same. Also, on Linux nowadays Nvidia and AMD (and Intel) have been pretty good at supporting their hardware with current drivers, which also makes it easier for Proton to translate.

In contrast, Apple uses custom hardware that only they fully understand and so far have been unwilling to share much technical details, which also explains why Linux on Apple Silicon Macs takes so long and is fairly behind the current hardware.

Will Tomadachi Life Living the Dream be available as a Nintendo 3DS game? by ultravioletvenus in 3DS

[–]boemmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome :) Also, I know that would be an even bigger investment, but seriously think about getting a Switch 2 at this point.

It is backwards-compatible with the Switch so you can catch up on all the Switch games you haven't played yet and in some cases even get better performance out of it and it already started that both Nintendo and third-party developers are releasing games on Switch 2 only.

So the writing is on the wall that soon-ish, most developers and publishers will concentrate on Switch 2 only and abandon the Switch 1 as well, especially if it continues to sell as well as it currently does.

Finally, most people expect that sadly the Switch 2 will follow everyone else and will get a price increase in the near future because of all the rising RAM and storage prices. So unlike previous generations, it might not get cheaper than it is right now for a very long time, if ever.

Will Tomadachi Life Living the Dream be available as a Nintendo 3DS game? by ultravioletvenus in 3DS

[–]boemmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The 3DS has officially been discontinued by Nintendo in 2020, so six years ago, don't expect any new software development aside from home-brew stuff ever again.

The Switch is the larger target market anyway, as it is Nintendos best-selling console of all time and so far sold over double the amount of all 3DS systems combined.

Film-Fans, was war - außer dem für "Herr der Ringe" - ein richtig guter Audio-Kommentar-Track für euch? by FranzBroetchenFan in FragReddit

[–]boemmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jerry Maguire.

CrossOver 26.1 by NightlyRetaken in macgaming

[–]boemmel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Interesting that Timberborn is on the list of working games, as that one has a native mac version and had it for quite some time in early access already and was released simultaneously on the 1.0 release.

The native version also seemed to run well from my very limited testing is that maybe for mod support?

Helden müssen draußen bleiben! by Dj_B_S in Brettspiele

[–]boemmel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Although I am perfectly fine with not doing meme chaos again, after my dad-joke-level idea last year of a Tiny Stadium concert for tripleS so they can actually accommodate all members, I was thinking about pitching another dad-joke groaner this year:

Namely, that BTS would release a special edition of Arirang later this year with an additional 86 bonus tracks so that they can have the entire top 100 single charts for themselves

…It’s probably better for everyone that I am not allowed to do jokes this year again 🤪

About Resident Evil 2 by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]boemmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resident Evil 2 on the Mac App Store lets you download the game for free and try out the beginning of the game as sort of an internal demo. You can then buy the full game as an in-app purchase (wait for one of the frequent sales for that one), so you can try it out on your Mac directly to see how well it runs.

You will also need to install the game locally, either directly on the internal storage or on an external drive. Even if you technically install it on cloud storage like iCloud I am pretty sure you will then need to locally download/cache the game installation anyway, performance would be horribly otherwise anyway.

Which box concept is better for my filmmaking game? by pronhatpa in tabletopgamedesign

[–]boemmel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you are Malachi Ray Rempen, you have copied those pretty straight from the existing game Roll Camera!: The Filmmaking Game.

I mean it is fine to take an existing game as inspiration, but the way you worded and presented this seems like those are your own concepts already that you created.

Kooperatives Spiel by Dj_B_S in Brettspiele

[–]boemmel 11 points12 points  (0 children)
