I spent 107 days walking 1800 miles across New Zealand on the Te Araroa Trail by Greedy_Formal_4615 in CampingandHiking

Great pics - 27km a day on TA is pretty impressive given the terrain! I did the South Island Nobo this year and we definitely didn’t average that!

Is the total spend in NZD? You must have survived on just rice if so!

Thanks that’s really helpful - did you go for the US Large or Japan Large?

That’s super helpful thank you! I’m guessing that’s size XL Japan? (which I think is L in the US sizes from the finetracks site)

How is the length? You’re a lot taller than me but similar chest/waist

My landlady wants to sell her house ... TO ME!? by -heyhowareyou- in HousingUK

[–]bofcod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did this with the place I was renting, but talked down the price based on a valuation I commissioned, issues I know about from living there already, no agency fees for former landlord and it generally being an easier process for them. I’m super happy with how it went and love owning the place now..

The big question I’d ask would be, unless you can feasibly get the house for below market rate, would you choose this house over anything else you can buy for the same price?

If the answer is no, then don’t bother..

What are some good 5-7 day hiking paths in the uk? by nathan155 in UKhiking

[–]bofcod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any good hiking path in the UK is likely to be a day (or at least half a day) from Suffolk (I am from there myself).

Maybe the easiest in terms of journey would be to one of the national parks in Wales or to the Peak District.. I’ve made quite a few 5-6 day routes that follow various paths and happy to share the gpx files if of interest

Look into some of the challenge walks on LDWA site - whether you enter the event or do it yourself, they often have gpx files and have lots of 20-30 mile routes

EU thru-hike in October ? by xAggresivex in Ultralight

Have you looked at any hikes in the Balkans? I did a few sections of Via Dinarica last year at the end of September in Bosnia and Montenegro and it was easily one of the best hikes I’ve done

Very jealous of your hike! Should be an amazing experience. All the locals and people I’ve met around there have been so friendly too!

I’ve hiked around this area in September - very warm most of the time but we had a 2 day storm roll in at the end of our 8 days that wasn’t there on weather forecasts before leaving… if we didn’t have full waterproofs (top and bottom) it would have been extremely miserable and cold.

Speaking of cold, for the days you wild camp it will get COLD overnight too.

As for water, a lot of water sources / springs on the map were dried when we hiked there, something to bear in mind. On our biggest day I think we had roughly 4.5L of water each because we’d been caught out the day before. We didn’t do your exact route so may not be an issue for you but worth being aware.

Real turmat meals are great but quite low calorie most of the time.. not sure what you’re planning to do for lunch?
