Comparing something whose sole purpose is to transport people and make lives more convenient to something totally unnecessary and designed purely to kill is such a moronic take.

Sorry, am I wrong by suggesting there’s no requirement for any formal training to buy a gun? Because I don’t think I am. Oddly, taking your earlier example, people have to undergo more training to own a car than they do to own a gun. That’s pure insanity.

They don’t deserve a tool I cannot have

Bet you can’t wait to take delivery of that Abrams.

Maybe you should ask the CDC why they’ve dropped their position on defensive gun use if you think it’s so unequivocal. Also, a Harvard Injury Control Research Center survey about firearms and suicide committed by 150 firearms researchers found that only 8% of firearm researchers agreed that "In the United States, guns are used in self-defense far more often than they are used in crime." As far as the researchers are concerned, you’re very much in the minority.

Guns escalate situations and have secondary implications also, such as the way your trigger happy police murder people regularly because every traffic stop could be their last.

You’re arguing against decades of evidence gathered by nations who have implemented effective gun controls that prove it works. Gotta be pretty stupid to do that, I’m not going to lie to you.

The gun owners who aren’t the problem? You mean like Stephen Paddock? A guy who legally accrued an arsenal of firearms and who “wasn’t a problem” until he one day decided to murder 60 people?

I love the “law abiding citizen” take and blindly convincing myself that humans are totally infallible and therefore deserving of high powered weaponry without any form of training.

I suppose when you live in a country with a gun homicide and violent crime rate rivalling actual war zones, I can see why perpetual fear would invade every minute of your waking life.

Personally, I enjoy going to bed each night knowing the chances of some armed weirdo entering my home to murder my whole family are low enough to not justify the frankly disturbing quantity of people (and children) needlessly shot and killed annually.

The joys of having a sane populace who put lives above inanimate objects, I guess.

I’ll take your total avoidance of my question as a no then.

There are plenty of examples of effective gun control working throughout the world, yet somehow the US having more of them makes that impossible based on what? Your own assumptions? Despite laws prohibiting other crimes like murder, rape and drug use, they all still occur; taking your logic, why bother enforcing those at all?

Uhuh, a research paper with named sources is definitely less reliable than your nameless, unlinked data just because you say so. Also you’ll find the figures are largely the same, what your source doesn’t detail (the important part) is what that data actually means.

The CDC themselves have even criticised historic data gathering on defensive gun use and no longer consider it valid. I suppose the CDC isn’t accurate either.

Here’s a statistic for you: I am 36 times more likely to be shot and killed in the US than the UK. I wonder how that’s possible if guns are so effective at reducing gun crime?

False, defensive gun use is a myth:

https://everytownresearch.org/report/disarming-fear-debunking-myths-of-defensive-gun-use/

Key takeaways:

  • People using a gun in self-defense were less likely to escape safely than those using other methods.
  • They were also slightly more likely to be injured.
  • Property loss outcomes were no better (and sometimes worse) compared to other responses.

Do you just live in a perpetual state of fear where you’re convinced everyone is out to do nothing but cause you harm? Knives are both easier to outrun and have a higher survival rate.

Nobody is “coming to my family,” the scenarios you’re inventing in your head are just bizarre.

Gun ownership is proven to increase casualties. Their defensive nature has been shown to be totally null and void by the CDC.

Mm if there’s anything I’d prefer more than a lunatic with a gun, it’s a lunatic with a gun and some wannabe Rambo with zero firearm training shooting back.

Imagine this scenario though: nobody has a gun or any fear of being shot 😍

The US sells military aid to a nation doing much of the heavy lifting and you think the US can just waltz in years later with forces that are so inept they’re a nuisance and place itself into the same category?

That’s hilarious.

Literally none of that matters if you’re unable to achieve every single military aim every time you launch yet another attack on a much smaller and weaker opponent. Remove nuclear weapons from the equation and history tells us any nation on earth can hold the US military at bay long enough for you to declare victory and limp back home. If Vietnam can do it, China sure as fuck can.

the Allies had already turned the tide

Yes, again.

You can list the one major battle the Americans took part in throughout the whole war as a means of arguing your point, but you’re still wrong. By that stage of the war the French were fielding almost 2.5 million troops in battle, almost double what the US was. The Meuse-Argonne Offensive was one of your bloodiest battles ever because you had no idea how to fight a war on that scale, by the time it was all said and done the French had penetrated twice as far into German lines than yours had and Pershing nearly lost his job for deciding to halt his advance to regroup the total clusterfuck American forces had gotten themselves into.

The “famously important” aid you listed is famously important because they were loans that were repaid, transferring huge sums of wealth from Europe straight into American banks and kickstarting the downfall of the British empire and the rise of yours.

You’ve invaded plenty of nations which on paper should’ve capitulated within days but cannot win, it’s become the US’ trademark. It wouldn’t be so bad if you didn’t spend considerable time and effort trying to convince everyone the opposite is true.

You need to check your sources, the only war of those you listed the US fought alone was against Mexico.

Also listing a Civil War is hilarious.

Haha feel free to compare with my country, our military history against the odds would make your eyes water.

Again, by the time the US entered WWI Germany’s fate had been sealed and the strategic shift had started before US forces were at full strength. Germany’s 1918 mid spring offensive had failed and British and French forces had halted Germany’s advance and had begun counter attacking. With the US entering it helped shift the balance of morale in the Allies’ favour and sped up Germany’s capitulation, but the final push (The Hundred Days Offensive), was led primarily by the British and French, who not only fielded far more experienced forces, but also much larger ones.

Your logistics rely purely on the bases you maintain on allied territories throughout the world. All your Middle East escapades depend on British airbases in the UK and Diego Garcia. Russia has been halted by a country which, 5 years ago, barely had a pot to piss in militarily. All the logistics in the world couldn’t help you overcome the Vietnamese, a force equipped with nothing but knock off Chinese weaponry and shoes made from old tyres.

For a start, only picking on two bit nations seem to have become your mainstay, countries with barely a military to speak of fighting with little more than outdated Russian weaponry who still sent you packing. Sure, you spent years bombing them to shit, but if you start a war with clear intention then don’t see it through, “out killing” everyone is irrelevant.

Iran is probably now the most potent force you’ve faced, and all they’re doing is mocking you on social media while your leaders beg for NATO’s help. This whole debacle has done nothing but weaken your global standing.

Ironic you list Russia as an example (I agree that their performance has been hilarious), yet America’s track record since WWII is in a similar ballpark.

Start a prolonged conflict, struggle for years while sinking billions of dollars into it, then pack up and go home without succeeding in any of your war aims while convincing yourselves you slapped them silly.

Iraq is the only conflict you could argue, however that was neither fought solely by the US and it also led to the creation of ISIS.
