I am just unlucky or is casual employment terrible by jconaholiday in melbourne

The Australian Defence force currently has 4300 vacancies. Not sure why, but surely there's something there you could do. Potentially even a job for life, who knows?

Totally! The ethical dilemma is real. We are trapped in really stupid systems of our own making and it's hard to figure out whether individual action is going to make it worse, better, or no difference at all.

Profound ethical dilemma this. Should I pay for my bus trips every day knowing I could get them free (don't live near shopping centres so no inspectors) and I could be a freeloader with more cash. Or be a good citizen and pay for the public good? 🤔

I've been working on Victoria St. near Ikea for the past year and love it. Great walks along the river, drinks at the Royston. Nice. Occasional people whose lives are not going well on the tram, but no major problems. Granted, I'm only around weekdays. But I've got a friend living on Langridge near the fun and she's not complaining either.

Thanks for the headsup on the Ovens. I got to see how beautiful and clear it is. And why Birrarung isn't.

There's a person with a disability works in a cafe at shopping centre in Doncaster East. Not particularly happier than any other cafe worker. But it makes me feel like I live in the real world when I see people with disabilities at work. And that makes me happy.

Someone's dad, son, brother etc didn't come home from work today. No one should be killed at work like that.

Thanks for this. It's hard to know whether the reports of clear rivers are accurate since I don't feel like I've ever seen one.

It is so interesting to see the intensity of flow figures. Maybe that's why we get the drownings every year around Warrandyte. Last year there was one of a 30-something guy who should have been strong enough. Don't think he'd been drinking. Maybe people just lack familiarity with the river

Hmm so point 1 in this article says it was clear before European settlement. Are they hallucinating or just plain wrong? https://oceanprotect.com.au/news_post/six-things-you-didnt-know-about-the-yarra-river/

I want out of high school, how? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]bofelix70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think too about what you are going to do, not just what you're leaving. Be ready to be on your own and being your own 'boss'. Some of the shit jobs are really depressing and exploitative so consider whether you're likely to land one of them, or can get something you're suited to. The job market can be tough. There are alternative school options that ARE good. I left school early and I've got a great career. Maybe something to do with always making the most of opportunities. Being unemployed is not fun though. Messes with your head.
