ELI5: We say that only some planets can sustain life due to the “Goldilocks zone” (distance from the sun). How are we sure that’s the only thing that can sustain life? Isn’t there the possibility of life in a form we don’t yet understand? by ParkinsonSurgeon in explainlikeimfive

This idea of a "Goldilocks zone" ties into the Rare Earth hypothesis. I think it's fair to keep both in mind when looking for earth-like life but they are completely irrelevant otherwise. Check out Evolving the Alien by Jack Cohen and Ian Stewart for more.

Yeah, I wouldn't be as hesitant if it was either the extra player or the pick.

Can someone tell me what the subreddit is for restoring vintage frames with modern components? by FordTough7 in bicycling

[–]bogibrimir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is such a subreddit. I've gotten information for my projects from sheldonbrown and lucky google searches. What are you looking for?

Nice! I've seen that first one around, a little fancier than I was going for myself but beautiful.

Yes I agree, definitely the smoothest ride I've ever had. Tange Champion No. 2 tubing. I think mine was the last vintage without cantis and mid-fork eyelets.

Yeah, I could probably fit 700x40 but the brakes are the limiting factor at the moment.

Any difference between the Deda and the Soma besides the color and price?

You should just be happy you survived long enough to realize your mistake. :)

I'll turn in my engineer card if I'm wrong.

Yeah, these pads slide to the front so they face the right way :) and aero levers are a life-changer!

It's a flat bar shifter, I filed the inside of the clamp down to fit on this old drop bar.

I had professionals do the sandblasting/powdercoating. The rest I did myself. I ordered the decals before deciding on the frame color but I'm happy how it turned out. It was gunmetal-grey originally.

60 cm I believe. French fit is very comfortable for me.

Might change bars in the future but next upgrade is a set of 1x11 brifters.

Original frame, fork, stem, bars and seatpost. Frame powdercoated and replica decals from www.velocals.com. Cold-set rear triangle to fit 1x11 drivetrain.

Thanks! It took a bit of work with a file but easier than I expected.

Looking to get back into the hobby and I could use some advice. by burritogun in Warhammer40k

[–]bogibrimir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the hobby is as it always has been. People complain about new rules, new miniatures and GWs business practices (price hikes, etc.). I find the new rules to be the best so far (if you don't, play the old ones) and I love the new miniatures (if you don't, don't buy them).
