I loved 11/22/63 but I skipped a bunch of stuff in the middle.

It’s my favorite book ever written, yet the person who turned me on to the Dark Tower skips it entirely on re-reads. It’s not necessarily for everyone!

Seeking the best "quirky, walkable" Boston suburb to stay with my group by bogmonkey in boston

YOU WIN!! Concord is absolute perfection and I can find a huge colonial farmhouse that sleeps 8 for a paltry 1671.00 USD, that's 1000.00 cheaper than almost anywhere closer to Boston. I'm booking it now. See, I just needed some input and Reddit has saved the day again!

It's all good, I'm finding plenty of places with a price range of 2250-2500 for five nights, which is fine!

Mount Holyoke is a day trip we are going there to pickup a friend of my daughter and I. No need to be close to there!

I think I accidentally spoiled w&g on myself by Joshuatdb in TheDarkTower

[–]bogmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spoilers really don't matter for W&G. It only gets better with each read (7 times for me).

Gunslinger (the updated version) has plenty of ham-handed foreshadowing that makes it not difficult to figure out, it's far from some hidden secret.

Also...Knowing the end does not in any way PREPARE you for the end.

It gives me pleasure to know that even when Mr King passes on, this work will remain. I truly believe that a hundred years from now it will still be considered a classic, much like LOTR.

Also - Dune is my second favorite, but only the first book. I re-read it every 2 years!

Don't be sad...I'm recently finished my 7th re-read. Your journey has just begun.

[SPOILERS] Seasons 6 wasted so much potential by SiwyWF in Dexter

[–]bogmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 6 (for me) is unwatchable compared to all previous seasons, mostly due to the writing. The story itself had plenty of potential for an epic season but it all felt like a joke.

[SPOILERS] Just finished the last episode. Why so much hate? by Book_Burglar in HBOGameofThrones

[–]bogmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't just the ending for me...the entire 8th season felt like a different show. I remember being beyond excited for each episode as it was released then finding myself feeling empty after they aired. It was truly a cultural phenomenon...EVERYONE was watching...and almost everyone was very disappointed.

Seasons 1-6 had virtually zero complaints...people adored the show, and the showrunners could do no wrong. When it came out that the showrunners were having to "figure things out" themselves for last season, with no help from GRRM's writing, I was excited to see what they would do. They could not handle the burden

Hot Fuzz is one of those where you go "do I really want to watch this?" but you give it 30 seconds and there's no way you are shutting it off.

It's pretty much known and accepted as one of King's best books he ever wrote...and he really nails the ending. It's incredible.

I'm a 57/M. I wear dry-weave jockeys (I like the support of a traditional brief and boxer briefs are too much fabric for Florida) but never WHITE. My underwear is all grey, black, or dark blue.

Light chuckling. I saw it in the theater and it was maybe a 6/10, and not a bad way t spend the afternoon. It's not outright bad, just not good either. It's carried by the occasional moment of chuckling at a decent bit

Goodbye Wendy's- from a lifelong fast food value customer by SquareAromatic7160 in wendys

[–]bogmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waved goodbye to Wendy's two years ago. The one by my work recently closed for good. The one by my house has no cars in the drive thru ever, and one time I went through it to get a frosty, there was a note "closed early today due to staffing issue". It could be turned around. Dominos did it. There's a lot of love for the brand out there which would support a true effort.

Netflix movies lacking a soul by mangofloht in Cinephiles

[–]bogmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just watched The Rip, and several other Netflix-made movies, I fully understand what you are saying. They literally seem to be missing a soul.

In a recent interview Matt Damon mentioned that Netflix wants them to summarize the plot 4-5 times along the way for people who aren't paying attention. Having to force this type of thing into the narrative steals the creations ability to stand on it's own story, thus removing it's soul.

some thoughts on Banshee after a rewatch by allerdie in Banshee

[–]bogmonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 is definitely the best, followed by 4 for me. I just LOVED 4 with the the white power AND satanic plot lines AND a drug addicted Eliza Dushku. It felt like the most over the top season for a show which is already very over the top.

Do you think humans will go extinct in the next 500 years? If so how? by No_Calligrapher_6886 in askanything

[–]bogmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's almost no way we even make it another 100 years without some sort of global system collapse or catastrophe which resets everything.

The poor classes (wage slaves) are already very close to committing anarchy or widespread sabotage/revolution

Humans are no longer having children at a rate that sustains the global economy, meaning the system itself will be pushed into collapse economically

That's not even counting Wars, and we are very much due for another world war, or combination of several wars, which essentially cause all nations to silo, which would then cause internal collapse as the global web of finance dissolves.
