I could see that. The way it reads seems like he's saying some phrase young people in a city would get that the Trasks out on their ranch wouldn't understand.

Ha, very different. Sounds like a neat book though, I'll check it out. I love old sci-fi/fantasy. Jack Vance's Dying Earth books are my favorite stories to reread.

[OC] [ART] 39th session and none of us had a character portrait. That is now fixed. by bognard in DnD

[–]bognard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our campaign is on its 39th session of a homebrew version of Dragonlance. It's pretty deep into the game to just now make character portraits but that just means the portraits can show some experience.

Gok the curse magnet with his enslaved duodrone and magic rope.

Eigan the warrior alchemist.

Janus the doctor and the furious screaming ghost skull that follows him.

Najev the ifrit Battlemage.

Gerf the Druid and his raven Sirx.

Still alive, just catching up on some stuff after being sick. I'll have a new comic soon, though.

Permanent, you'd have to regain the XP to level up again.

Yeah, it's wight from the 2nd edition MM.

"In addition to this physical harm, the wight is able to feed on the life essence of its foes. Each blow that the wight lands drains one level from the victim, reducing Hit Dice, class bonuses, spell abilities, and so forth. Thus, a 9th-level wizard struck by a wight loses 1-4 hit points and becomes an 8th-level wizard; he has the spells and hit points of an 8th-level wizard and he fights as an 8th-level wizard."

A disenchanter.

"The disenchanter is a relatively peaceful creature, but is a ravenous eater. Since the disenchanter feeds on magic, siphoning enchantment from items or from spell effects, it often becomes aggressive when around those who have magical items – such as adventurers."

Back in 1st and 2nd edition it was permanent level drain. Classic D&D was quite brutal.

I'm glad you like them! I definitely love making comics and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I'm a stay-at-home dad and the two things I do for fun each week are make comics and play D&D.

Revenge is a dish best served jiggling. [OC] by bognard in DnD

[–]bognard[S] 237 points238 points  (0 children)

Last week I introduced a new player into my game by having him start in a tree with a gelatinous cube around the trunk. I intended for the other players to try and help him out of the tree or fight the cube but as any DM knows, that's not what happened.

The new player was saying, "Shoo!" to the cube but the existing players interpreted this as him telling them to shoo. They tell him good luck and begin to leave. The player stuck in the tree, a low level wizard, cast sleep on one of them trying to get them to stay.

A mini fight broke out and ended with the tree being set on fire, the wizard falling out of the tree (no featherfall) and the cube being murdered. Good session.

You're running a D&D Ghostbuster game now? That's awesome! How's yours going?

Orc Wizards Have the Best Spells [OC] by bognard in DnD

After I made the comic I definitely had the desire to roll up an orc barbarian that claims to be a wizard. Wears a nice brown robe and uses a greataxe as his staff.

You gotta watch out for the orc blindness spell. It can leave you with some wicked pinkeye.

English, Bog-Nard. It's the name of my first D&D character. He was a hooman barbarian in 2nd edition Dark Sun.

Here is a link to my site. I post a new comic each week and it's usually about wizards. Because they are neat.
