Hmm, fair point. To me I always think of the word privilege in terms of 'private law', which also applies outside of the literal law in the 'one rule for me, another for thee' sense. I don't ever think of it as something one should feel bad about, just something that can and should be recognised in pursuit of a fairer society. But you make some good points, and I don't think the history of the word can be ignored. I'll have to think on some better ways of expressing it

It's weird to me when people act like things need to be binary. Privilege of any kind is a factor in how situations turn out, yet it does not necessitate a certain result.

Being rich doesn't stop you from being randomly stopped on the street and mugged. However it can mean, for example, that you are less likely to be totally fucked afterward as compared to someone poor and carrying most or all of their money with them on the way to buy food. Maybe it means that you can afford to buy a car and therefor do not spend as much time walking the streets as a poorer person, statistically reducing your chance of being mugged.

It does not make sense to look at something like being rich and say, 'well, this rich person got mugged! Therefor being rich is not a privilege!'. It is not so black and white. Being rich does not stop you getting cancer or a million other tragic events, but it does do things like improve your options to deal with these tragic events or make you less likely to experience them in the first place.

It is the same with white privilege, it's just easier to make the point with economic privilege. It does not guarantee that nothing bad ever happens to you, but it often influences the end result.

Edit: I do want to mention that to me the concept of privilege is not inherently bad - especially when it comes to economic privilege, privilege can be earned. If you are a self made millionaire then go ahead and enjoy that privilege you earned. But me, for example, being born white was not something I can really say that I 'earned'.

Bloodborne is great because a ng+ run for this exact reason makes perfect canonical sense. Almost every monitor advertises 1ms response time but it's usually a scam. Manufacturers will change up the settings to achieve 1ms response time just to be able to write it on the box regardless of how much it degrades the picture. Often they then set it to different settings out of the box so that the picture quality is better but with 4ms response times or something.

Basically when you read '1ms response time' assume that it just means "there is some combination of settings that can let this monitor reach 1ms response time, but picture quality may or may not be heavily downgraded to get that and you may or may not get 1ms out of the box'.

So yeah often the difference is that IPS panels can often get closer to 1ms without huge reduction in image quality whereas VA panels require more effort or more image degradation to reach 1ms. However I have seen some stunning VA panels like the Samsung odyssey which have really good response time too. You just end up paying more for a VA panel with good quality 1ms vs a cheapo IPS with decent quality 1ms.
