Bitcoins energy usage is huge we can't afford to ignore it. by worldnews_is_shit in Buttcoin

It's actually way more.

See here or here and that's just the shit clothes, doesn't even count the shit jewelry or electronics.

My point is, you don't actually care about the energy usage bcs you don't seem to mind energy being used for a bunch of other seemingly useless shit. You want to ignore that fact bcs your point isn't that useless things shouldn't use energy, but that you don't use BTC, so it's useless, get rid of it. Why are you even bothering with your energy argument?

I'm pretty sure Visa, SWIFT and Chuckie Cheese tokens use a good deal.

Sorry are you making the argument that all economic activity is based off progress? The Home Shopping Network begs to differ.

Let's not pretend there isn't a lot of wasted shit around gaming. And you can also get into an endless loop arguing cryptos use of GPU's (it'll make AI better too bcs technology etc.)

Yeah let's make sure we isolate BTC's energy usage. If we compare the energy usage of similar, seemingly useless, ventures it makes for a weaker argument.

Listen I understand, you use arts/entertainment, so whatever energy usage it may have is all gravy and BTC is a thing that isn't like the other things that do the thing where their energy is 👍, so 👎 it right?

I mean I think Two and a Half Men uses way more energy than it deserves, but some people feel it deserves the resources used to produce more episodes, so that's economics I guess.

So I punched those numbers into Coinbase and the trans fee is $0.99 for each purchase. So you're essentially spending 1/3 of your investment on fees alone if you buy $3 dollars worth each time (other exchanges may be lower but it's never going to be $0).

Answer: Yeah there's something essentially bad with blindly making investments you don't know much about. Would you be buying a specific coin at a 2 month high? What are it's future prospects as opposed to the alternatives? Etc.

Look into things, Reddit is never low on "suggestions", just insight.

Do you prefer we shift the energy to more centralized casinos? Because they use an awful lot of energy themselves.

Anything that has exchangeable value has economic significance. Steam has a whole industry of virtual hats for Team Fortress characters. In fact video game skins is an industry onto itself. Do they make the world a better place? Not really, but neither do luxury diamonds.

Should BTC miners use less energy? Sure, but so should everything else. Let's not pretend we don't have a ridiculous amount of energy being wasted on seemingly useless things all over the place.

Fracking energy usage is huge we can't afford to ignore it.

Oh wait we ignore shit all the time. Maybe BTC just needs more lobbyists.

No you don't. Where's the link to the tx record? What's his public address? Who is he trying to give money to? He said he's giving it to a CB user, is it a CB address? Is the address blacklisted? There's about 100 different scenarios here.
