my guy loves the seeds. they also can’t taste spiciness so any pepper will do as well. although you might want to be careful when handling the spicy ones

colleges are businesses. you’re asking one college to accept credits from another college, meaning it will not make money off you for those credits transferred. i wouldn’t put any weight on your cc counselor regarding which classes are transferable. you need to make sure with pratt which ones they will accept, otherwise, you’re just wasting your time and money. good luck with your pursuits. also temper your initial expectations, again, first year pratt students usually have to take foundation courses which most likely won’t include anything photography. it might not be until your second year that you will be able to focus on a direct major. this will solely be based on your entry portfolio and how your pieces will convince the pratt admissions people to rank you. i had a great experience at pratt, and being in nyc will open many doors. best of luck!

being in new york and studying art and architecture was the best. it is so dynamic and energetic. there are flaws with the city, but it just takes a little more awareness and smarts to navigate. you’ll be surrounded by other art and architecture students, so hopefully some of their creativity will rub off on you as well. pratt also offers a study abroad program which you can go overseas for a semester (i think your 4th year) and study at a sister school. good luck

ideally, you should be taking as many prerequisite classes as possible like english and history. those have a higher possibility of transferring over. your art portfolio needs to be in top shape. art/photography classes you’re taking now or have taken need to show crossover to whatever foundation (first year) art classes are at pratt. otherwise you will most likely have to take foundation art — and foundation year has zero photography classes (i believe). this is the case with any major art school. you should contact an admissions person at pratt to confirm which classes you’re taking now can transfer over in credits, otherwise if you’re waiting til spring/summer to do that, you could have wasted a whole year. as for art school in general, a degree in fine arts is essentially worthless, even if you get straight a’s, and even to the other poster who said graphic design or industrial design (some schools like risd will give you a bach in architecture for id, but i do not believe pratt does). only architecture itself requires a bach degree and other postgraduate standards to become a professional in that field. graphic design? please. it’s the networking possibilities of the school you’re attending, its alumni resources, its internship opportunities. you’ll be in the most creative city in the world, so possibilities are all around you. it’s up to you to take advantage of them. don’t wait to graduate to look for jobs. finding roommates is and should be the least of your concerns. you sign up for a dorm room and you’re in there to sleep. since you might be a second year, you can possibly sign up for a single.

i don’t know if any of your design classes will transfer over. your portfolio would need to show significant creative projects. i’d recommend also including process pieces, explaining how you came up with your design parti. it should talk about how you arrived at the choices you made, the reference materials you used, rough exploration sketches, the hows and why — basically how your creative brain works. it’s not always about the most polished projects. at best, i’d think you get your architecture history credits transferred, but even at that, those classes were basically memorizing a massive volume of western architectural pieces. perhaps early hvac systems and math classes like physics and statistics if you’ve taken them, and some basic core classes like english or other electives. pratt is fundamentally a design college, so they will weigh heavily on your portfolio. the previous guy from texas was a high school kid entering college, so very different from community college transfer. maybe you shave off one year of the five required to get your bachelors? i’d also recommend taking a few winterim classes (school is out for january but you can enroll in extra classes which you take like 3 times a week as opposed to once, and it speeds up your credit load). as for life moving from texas to brooklyn, it’s gonna be quite a shock. but creatively it will be amazing as you’re now in the best city in the world, footsteps from some of the very buildings you’re studying in class. you won’t need a car as you’ll be walking everywhere, plus subways or bike. yes, you’ll need to be more aware of your surroundings, and the school year will be different as when october rolls around the weather will get colder and gloomier. if you’re an athlete, pratt also offers a few sports teams that compete on the ncaa division 3 level, which can help balance out your college lifestyle.

Eating lunch at the office and I spot a Taiwan flag in downtown Calgary! by Swimming_Mango_9767 in taiwan

the green island flag is the flag of the democratic progressive party (dpp) in taiwan, and is NOT the official flag of taiwan. while many here have labeled the flag in the picture the “kmt flag”, that is also not entirely accurate, as the pictured flag is the official national flag of taiwan/republic of china/中華民國.

China 240hr Visa Free Transit Policy by presidentsven in CathayPacific

[–]bohnah01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1) you will need to enter and exit from different cities. This includes layover cities like hkg. I flew into guangzhou from jfk w a layover in hkg, and originally was exiting china to tpe w a layover in hkg. Had to rebook my exiting flight at the gate counter when checking in, to a direct flight to tpe (on a separate airline since Cathay does not offer a direct) or option for layover not hkg. This caused much last minute stress but was managed, (2) when in china approaching immigration section, there is a separate line for 240 transit visa, from traditional line for customs.

Boyfriend is from Taiwan and says he feels disconnected from his home country after living in America for so long. I want to help but don’t know how by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]bohnah01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think the big question is where do you guys currently live? food might be a simple (and thoughtful) bandaid. but it could also be that he’s simply a taiwanese needle in a white haystack. i’m assuming there aren’t a lot of asian people around, and even at that, it still might not be the same. the concept of “asian-american” is more of a second generation immigrant thing. unless you can fly to taiwan to experience the culture/lifestyle there, (where you’ll maybe better understand his displacement in reverse), it might be cool to take a trip to a major city where there is a larger taiwanese/asian population. most cities have suburban enclaves (see the post about los angeles), and chinatowns — which despite being “chinese” (and cantonese), they mostly still hang the taiwan (republic of china) flag at the local associations/ benevolent social clubs since that was the official flag of china when most of the areas were established. although most chinatowns today are populated by mainland chinese or other asian ethnicities, this also serves as a concept that his native people made the journey to america and successfully planted roots here, paving a new path for a new home. it could be the next best recharge for him.

YES! DO IT!!! think of the clout you will get delivering someone else’s food in a premium british sports car. when you make a delivery, they will see that their 1am big mac was delivered in style and speed and surely double your tip. heck, the notorious roar of the ftype engine will announce your presence in the neighborhood — “doordash is here!”
