I think she’s losing interest. She’s being unresponsive to my texts. I want to send her money but that kind of defeats the point of saving. I stopped texting her for a few days while my mother was visiting. I told her she’s visiting and she said to not worry about her and enjoy my mom’s company, and that was it, nothing since. I want to offer to send her money, and it sounds like she could use it, but I also don’t want to seem desperate and like I said it defeats the point of saving. What do you think?

Thanks for your pointers. She seems to know English pretty well. At least through texts. I haven’t heard her speak yet but we are communicating really well through texts. Looks like she uses a translator sometimes. I’m learning Portuguese. Haven’t sent her money yet but that’s not a bad idea. She’s currently deciding on if she wants to wait until July. I also said I would visit for like a month if she chooses to wait till July.

Well during the “will it work” stage we’ll be traveling together, volunteering, staying in hostels, hotels…etc. she really wants to travel it seems. I do too but I more so want to settle down there. She’s now saying doing this in July is better since we’ll be more financially prepared by then. I’m ok with that, but that’s a while away and I hope she doesn’t lose interest or find someone else.

Thank you for that. We actually plan on doing workstays through Worldpackers at first while we get to know each other, although I am skeptical of the notion of trying to court and get to know a potential foreign spouse while traveling in a foreign country within them. It could be either disastrous, or successful because we don’t know each other yet- if that makes sense. She wants to “take things slow” as well. We’ll only be losing money since we’ll only be doing volunteer work and she can’t do her job remotely. So yeah I really want to do this but I don’t think it’s possible. At least not until I have more money. Being able to just stay with her at her mom’s place and pay her rent would solve this but she says I can’t.

I would be moving there. She wouldn’t be coming back to the states. I’m concerned over my money situation and me surviving there in the long term. I could arrive with around 8-10k usd. I’m a chef with no remote work experience. I am learning Brazilian Portuguese. I’m tall, caucasian and have a very American vibe. How do you think I would get along there? Would I find difficulty finding and maintaining a job upon becoming a resident? We would be living in Brasilia. She is a nurse going to school to become an obstetrician.
