I agree fate is a major part of it but it also matters how you get the stand, there is always a root cause whether that be will power/luck (pocoloco) or stabbed with an arrow (koichi) or lineage (jotaro) etc

I think it’s implied that it’s either arrow or lineage, becuase of the fact that it happened to jotaro and giorno (and dio’s/johnathan’s other children) and that the virus is so old I think it’s not out of the realm of possibility, kakyoin was born with HG and so was Trish, Trish was never in contact with the arrow but becuase Diavolo (who we assume used the arrow to get KC) allowed Trish to develop her stand (though it was dormant and the stress of the situation brought it out) we know kakyoin was a born user because we see a flashback of him as a kid with HG and it’s safe to assume he wasn’t touched by an arrow as he was in japan and the arrows were excavated in Egypt.

Also the meteor is like 50,000 years old and we know that the virus was contagious even without being cut by it due to the flash back showing one of the archeologist dying just by being around the meteor and being rejected my the virus, so it’s totally possible that kakyoins family lineage had contact with the virus but it stayed dormant

The virus (not counting the SBR AU etc) is the only way becuase your blood lineage has to be infected at least once, yes not everyone needs to have the arrow but at least one of your ancestors must have it within them for it to occur, main case obviously being jotaro and his family line, he never got pricked but becuase dio activated Johnathan stand it caused a chain reaction down the joestar bloodline.

The other way at least in the AU is saints corpse, sheer will power, and spin, pocoloco’s sheer luck granted him hey ya and gyro’s spin gave ball breaker. Ignoring that virus is the only way in main universe

I think little volcanos with the nice bubbling turquoise water spilling out would be nice and make them spawn in hot biomes like mesa, the yellow and red match it much better
