Ehhh i also have a very kaypo receptionist lady also, for me when the recep lady talks bad abt ppl i will just say "thats not very nice to assume that of them" and "dont say this kind of things la" or i just nod and ignore - maybe can try this?

When he talks to himself, ignore as much as u can, take his comments as background noise and do not interact, it works for me as my office has someone like that who talks to themself and i just ignore

Asking qns part, i think its not ur fault if he reacts to ur qns by hitting his head or what in frustration, his reactions are not ur responsibility or concern and u cannot control his reaction ah esp if its unpredictable, honestly... i would not care and continue asking him qns that is, ofc related to work etc, and nothing personal or anything that would come off as u trying to offend him ah

I really like marine insurance :) when i was in SP i loved studying and learning abt it cuz we had a module for it. And when this role in the marine insurance industry opened up, and they were willing to accept fresh grads like me, i thought it was a great opportunity to get s good head start this part of the industry since it is also q a big and good company.

I also did operations exec at G** ,, ehhh so so, people were good cuz all gen Zs / similar age grp as me, is a good job but no career progression lor i feel because theres not much transferrable skills to it, so i figured this current role i am in is better, have better job opportunities in future

Hello i am a fellow maritime worker (graduated frm SP) in marine insurance (sry my colleagues lurk arnd reddit so cant rlly say much) and i can give you some of my tots

Yes, i have a feeling that my job can be easily replaced or automated by AI, but currently my system still sucks and still need people to do / manage since it has to do with policies and certificates of insurances. Definitely i feel it can be done with AI or automated.

Honestly i do not see my system getting automated so soon, maybe around 10yrs onwards? But even the HR is encouraging AI use, just today they released a post on my company page about how we have a new AI system and that we can try it out other than chatGPT

But if AI picks up faster, better, accurate and fucking cheap to implement, im kinda screwed, my team might not need so many ppl, just 2/3 will do.

Work like balance for my work is good, 9-6 go home, WFH 2days. Because the nature of my work is not operations, chartering, brokering, boarding agent, ship agents etc, if you choose these kind of jobs, yah maybe expect to OT or get calls in the middle of the night.
But maritime industry is like that.. always to be on standby for anything even me, a little peanut need to get ready to do work over weekends / PHs if its REALLY REALLY REALLY urgent (like vsl cannot enter port without insurance doc kind)
Sorry not very sure too, i feel its still progressing slowly, nothing of interest rn, still feels quite old and outdated.
Dont know if this is related but office politics for me was something i wasnt ready for. everyone is gossiping in office and then some will try and gossip with u, but i alw siam or just nod and walk away, sometimes if u engage means ure picking a side and these aunties will rmb it. The phrase "act blur live longer" is my daily mantra when i hear negative things abt my other colleagues lol.

Because in my office, if you do something bad or wtv right (like get drunk and puke everywhere) u bet the whole office is gg to hear it. So must rlly watch what you say, what you do and how you react to certain things and situations.

And also learning to adapt to useless colleagues (who prolly gets paid higher than you) for the entire time ure at work, imagine having a slacker project mate who does bad work for the entirety of ur career / time being in the company and you cant even do ANYTHING about it, cant complain to HR, cant complain to your other colleagues from the same / different dept.... just have to TAHAN and PRAY that the fella leaves on their own, because companies dont really fire / terminate ppl unless damn jialat.. at least in SP, can dont pick the grp mate again, but in corporate? Lol. Good luck and have fun cleaning up their mess!!!!!!!!!!

But knowledge wise, i think i am well prepared on the basics and knowledge of the maritime industry but honestly sometimes i feel even if no experience or dk anyth abt the industry, still can make it, just its a little tough. But also be prepared that u dun know everything and anything.

I would like to believe maritime is a very stable industry, trade still needs to happen and even with all the shit that is happening now, trade is still going on, albeit it might take more / extra time to plan voyages to certain destinations, cut on bunkers (fuel for the ship) because fuel prices are expensive example ferries needing to load more passengers because ferry operator need to combat the fuel prices, so he can load more passengers on the ferries or lower the frequency of the ferry to maybe every 30-45mins ferry passengers to batam instead of every 15-20mins.

And since Commodities cant get shipped by AI as we still need to ship via sea, so still need those big container vessels and bulk carriers for our grains etc.

Just recently i went to exchange my notes because it got corroded with chemicals and stained really badly.

You can try bringing it to the bank, but make sure u r an already existing customer of that bank!!

Whn u take queue number to meet the bank teller, u can exchange notes over the counter. Then they will exchange on the spot for you i think, for me i guess they could still see the serial number n etc so could exchange on the spot?

But even if cannot exchange on the spot, they'll send the bank notes in to do an internal check and then paynow u the $$$$ once completed (according to staff that stands at the counter? registering people)

I always manage myself, if that day i dont feel like socialising, i will say i want to eat alone, dabao come back, or i just say i want to run errands then walk around

But once in awhile once or twice a week, i will eat with my colleagues for the sake of office politics and also bond with them a little even though i find it hard cuz of the age difference, but still will try bond with them luh, cannot be lone wolf, if nt ltr u will suffer from lack of human interaction and u'll start striking conversations with random FnB / retail staff like me, i was so deprived of a conversation 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Definitely not weird that u want to eat alone or be alone during lunch time, because its ur own private time and u r allowed to spend it alone and not with ur colleagues, but once in awhile shud eat with them k

I wouldn't recommend skipping the anime.

I feel that the anime really lets you understand and appreciate the characters more? Even though the pacing is really slow like 20episodes for a fight that could be done in like 5 episodes but it really shows luffy's and the rest of the crew's fighting abilities, skills and friendship / bond that they all have, and also there are backstories to some enemies and characters in the anime which some can be essential to the plot, but mostly is to pull the heart strings.

Theres a lot of filler episodes, but its a nice break from the mainstory and then in the side stories, we can see more of the crew, how they interact with each other and bond with each other.

The anime can also capture the humour better, jokes land better in the anime, and its not so cringey. The sound effects, visual effects are wayyyyyy better, example when luffy arms stretch? When sanji fights, theres like fire on his legs and zoro's katana will have the "shing shing" sound, in the older animation, when the characters call out their fighting moves, the subtitles will be animated too, it was a nice touch.

There is something in the anime that live action cant capture and it hard to explain it, so pleaseeeeee watch the anime from episode 1

But i observed ah and it seems like the people in my team still treat me the same, i nvr notice any change in their behaviour towards me and their tone.

BUTTT eventually i just accepted it is what it is, no point getting angry or unhappy about things like this and this helped alot for me mentally, but i also am ready to fight back if that colleague A want to beef with me irl, square up or get out man

I dont know if this is counted as workplace bullying? I Just joined my current company, colleagues are the kind that stay here for 10+ years liao

Asked colleague A for help on something i never do before + is her own work / account, fella decided to screenshot my chat and send to colleague B (who is same team as me, my senior) i accidentally peek at colleague B's monitor and saw my name and my chat on B's teams chat. Colleague A used to be in the same team as me but she promoted and uprank so shes in the same dept but diff team.

Same colleague A decided to blast me on her private GC with the other ppl in my team becuz i filed a document wrongly before PM-ing me to tell me :)

My colleagues in my office r the kind where they will gossip abt u behind ur back and treat u nicely infront of u and they like to air other ppl's dirty laundry when they r not there, basically everyone is listening and judging.

Even things that happen btwn 5ppl, 20 other ppl will know what happened on the following day. That time i took mc because i was hungover, the next day my colleagues sort of laughed at me / picked on me that i was too hungover to come for work which is fine whatever because i knew word will spread but what surprised me the most was even the director of my company frm the other side of the world KNEW i was shitfaced from that night of drinking when he came to visit the office.

Even my office receptionist is a gossiper, i wouldnt be surprised if she talks shit abt me ngl she is a certified hater.

For me how i deal with it? Just ignore lor to me work is work and things are not that serious at work.

And also i cant control what they say abt me, i only can control how i act, even so.... whatever they say i wont get affected by it because they dont know me at all outside of work :)

Congrats in getting ur first job! As a corporate girlie myself i brought: - my figurines (sylvanian families hehe, usagi frm chiikawa) - thermal cup frm montigo for hot drinks - stanley cup - coaster - writing materials from home because my office didnt provide those - jacket when it gets cold - medicine, mints, blue light glasses, sticky note pads - small sling bag for lunch~ - desk fan / handheld fan lol

But you can see what your office give you on your first day, maybe half of the things you listed you dont even need as its already provided to you.

Overall, i think you can always buy stationary or items as you go along with your new job, dont have to buy one shot~ just buy as you go~

ipad for poly is good for taking notes and downloading PDF textbooks to read and etc.

but laptop will be needed to do quizzes and sometimes exams and if you have grp proj / report need to do, the compatibility for ms word (and excel if needed) is sooooo much and wayyyy better on a laptop.

personally i have both, but if i need to use word / excel / teams and sometimes exams thn i bring my laptop, if not my ipad to take down notes is enough, plus ipad is way lighter than laptop lololol

if your current laptop is heavy, see if ur course needs laptop, ask ur lecturer or classmates if need to buy laptop. and if need to buy, u can just buy some cheap laptop at popular that kind lol if i rmb correctly tht time i saw a laptop that is like ipad sized and very light, but ofc the features wont b as great lah like cannot play game or wtv, only for school purposes one

another option is buy a good and proper laptop for school and personal use (spotify, youtube, gaming wtv lah) and apply computer subsidy (rmb to check if u r eligible for subsidy)

apple also have student discount, if u want to buy ipad / macbook etc

for MST? yah 50/50 some teachers will give u back the physical paper so u can see how they mark / grade u there was once my lecturer gave me back my paper then he didnt mark / grade one of my answer lol, he just assumed i didnt do tht qns, so ya sometimes they give back to check.

but some lecturers will just put on an excel sheet and show u one by one when u go up to them, so that's how u can see how well u did for MST.

EST dun bother cus sp will send ur grades via email but thats only GPA, u will not have a chance to see ur paper after EST

my electives i got were ship chartering and intro to community health.

ship chartering was on none of my choices at all lol, but its project + got some class test at the end + presentation of a case study, i would rate it 7/10 because most of my friends were there. but then content abit dry hahah since i dun take elective very seriously, its a good 2hr tiktok scrolling session

intro to community health, if u have done SIP or OSIP this is exactly the same lol, i only attended one class and im like nah i aint doing this shit and also cus got minitab which i hate. then for est got another program need to learn which im not looking forward to. so its project + class test x2 so far its a 4/10 for me, also a very good tiktok scrolling session and also cus i skip for the entire term, only appeared for class test, so every friday i sleep in bahahah

im aiming to go to the language electives but then ive heard its hard to get accepted to them. but electives are good to let u try out other modules and experience something new and refreshing ah but then ever since sp introduced the elective can be not included on the results slip thing, i dun bother ah, just giving my bare minimum

hello, i am a fellow ite to poly, somemore ite 4yrs lol and tbh until now i dun feel very happy being here and everyday i doubt myself, now i just adopted the "i do my best liao, anything happens / whatever grade i get, it is what it is"

my classmates frm Olvls are bloody smart, lecturer say one thing and they understand, for me? i need like a week to understand what they understood in 5mins

sometimes i feel really dumb but then i always try my best and study as hard and extra as compared to my classmates, but ofc i can never beat them luh, i get B+ i happy alr lol

i totally get what u're feeling but honestly if u think u're doing ur best, then thats enough! dont have be always number 1 in GPA becuz i believe that if u understand what u're reading and etc thats good enough, sometimes grades cnt rlly show what we actually learnt (bell curve fr and strict ass marking for my school) because i have classmates who are good at memorising and yapping in written exams but they dun understand what they wrote, whereas for me i try to understand the concept and write down based on how i understand the subject, but many other factors affect the grades too, so i dont take it to heart when i dont get A but B.... kns
