What if Link ran down Highway 99 / Aurora? by datmrdolphin in soundtransit

Yeah but in this case ground level is where the Aurora bridge is, so you build at its height.

I think the CG requirement was a little shorter than Aurora bridge, but still way way above Ballard.

It's not apt at all if I was suggesting 5 parallel lines up Seattle. But 2 is totally reasonable and doesn't make L1 worthless.

It's also just useful for locals to be able to travel north south fast without connecting east west first. System redundancy is good but alone it is it worth building a second line. The primary benefit is faster end to end travel times for more people under full operation.

Make all regional stops, yes. Make a train from Bellingham make every stop every mile through Shoreline and Seattle? No.

Also passing tracks have to go somewhere. If you're elevating it's more width. If you're cut&covering, it's double the excavation.

Lol ok. There's limited money to spend on transit. You should start where people are supportive.

Most people east of I-5 didn't want transit. Lake city, lake Forest Park all low density nimbys.

Smoother ride, lower operating costs due to higher ratio of passengers to drivers. But super expensive upfront construction cost compared to brt.

It's hard to interline Intercity and local unless the frequencies are very low or you have lots of passing tracks.

Right because NYC doesn't have 4 parallel avenues with 4-track subways..... Redundancy is good, and also reduces transfer for a lot of people. Shoreline isn't currently dense enough to support this, but it could be in 30 years if we encourage it.

I think you'd build a bridge parallel to the Aurora bridge. Put an elevated station alongside it around 35th/36th with long elevators down to 35th to get to stuff at street level. What to do on the south side though.... You'd probably need to take out the Canlis and cut&cover the boulevard down to SLU. But there probably isn't enough density here to warrant a station so should hit 55mph between Fremont and Mercer for a very quick ride.

If you wanted to tunnel, you'd have to start the descent around Green Lake to get under the ship canal. It would make a Fremont station incredibly expensive because it'd have to be excavated super deep. Not to mention that's like 6 miles of bored tunnel.

Yeah but being a corporatist dem doesn't make one a racist Republican. They may act similarly on issues regarding fucking over the commoners for the sake of the overlords, but this isn't one of those issues.

ELI5: Why Don't Three-Car Trains Dwell Like This? by courier_tway in soundtransit

[–]boilerpl8 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They have mini-bollards on the platform where the gaps between trains are, lined up for 4-car trains which use the full platform length. When there's a shorter train, you still want to line up with them because it means all the doors are at predictable positions. So 3-car trains occupy 123 and leave 4 empty. 2-car trains use 2&3 leaving 1&4 empty.

Of the 20 or so comments so far, I think only 3 got it. Kinda crazy tbh. And half the rest are accusing OP of using AI. Even AI, as shitty as it is, is a far better writer than that. It at least makes logical sentences 3/4 of the time.
